Smart phone by far. It's ruined society. Women especially have access to men on the other side of the world to them let alone outside of their communities.

Even if the internet was what it is today but required a laptop or PC to use it wouldn't be so bad.

I'm lucky I was a teenager in the Nokia 5110 era.

You may as well include mechanical brakes, hard rubber tires and wooden spokes!

    Social media.
It's a man's world and we need to take it by the throat and make it give us what we desire.

    Oral contraceptives?

Really, the history of technology is just a concretization of a sublimated male sexual urge. Essentially, it is ideologies that have to be considered as the worst 'invention'. If we hold that Friedenist Feminism came from female suffrage, we should understand and accept that wahmenz were given the vote by men seeking to curry favor with the vagina kin.

Agree with social media: specifically Twitter and Instagram. Both are pretty much pointless and engineered to be incredibly addictive. Twitter because it appeals to peoples most base instincts: 95% of it is just people banding together and yelling abuse at each other or jumping on the latest outrage bandwagon. Similarly Instagram basically only exists for people to flex and make people jealous and for women to inflate their SMV (which is how we end up with 4/5s thinking they're 9/10s).

All in all countless lifetimes of human existence wasted on just these two apps combined.

Are ideologies considered inventions? If so I'd say Socialism/Communism.

It has to be the smartphone. Part of my job I train people. Before the widespread ownership of smartphones the people in my class room would be talking to each other before classes, during breaks, at the end etc but one day I returned late from lunch break and entered the class room knowing that everyone would already be there waiting for me - some 25 - 30 people. As I entered the room everyone was sat there in silence, every single person with their face buried in the phone. I stood at the front of the class and realised the power those bastard things hold. Nobody noticed I had returned and nobody looked up as I stood at the front until I spoke.

I am not saying that I hadnt noticed how much people had their faces glued to their phones before that point. But it took that later return to my class i was training that I noticed how powerful they were.

I still train staff and see this almost every time now.

If nature intended for us to have smart phones, she would have installed a strap hinge on our necks so our heads would fold comfortably down.

Wait and watch what smart phone junkies look like after 3 million hours of their chins touching their chests! I see a generation of vulture necks in the making!

Re: What is the worst invention in modern history?

    Digital forms of technology:

Before the advent of Internet and the relevance of global events, say 3 decades ago, life was much easier: your problems and worries were justifiably local. Peace of mind was the name of the game.

The pace at which life was changing was slow enough for just about anyone to accommodate to, and you literally had no worry other than studying hard and getting a job.

But after the advent of social media, the Internet and contemporary society, the world has gotten un-needingly more complicated: we got stuck with a mindset of having to digitalize and technologize everything. Technology is seeking to replace things it should never ever touch: how humans interact. Our self esteems also plummeted, because our expectations of genes, beauty and intelligence are derived from the 1% who we see on the Internet and only on the Internet. I will stress this again: back before globalization, your high school bully was probably the only person who you thought about when you think about strength, or and you only thought about your high school crush if you thought about beauty, etc. Now, we all associate the 1% gifted people on the world with every attribute and that is very bad. We can see this on dating apps where women have unrealistic and unattainable expectations of who to date etc.

The way dating dynamics shifted because of technology has created the incel movement. We should always remember that all social problems that we lament are mere manifestations of the environment that brings them into existence.

Another facet of this digitalization of everything is political activism. Just about every mundane, average person in the world feels like he is expected to be an activist. This left us with people from all spectrums thinking they're the next Mussolini and Bismarck.

I don't know guys but remember 2 decades ago when it was super rude to talk about politics openly? It was a social norm to not involve politics or religion in a conversation and to respect everybody and limit yourself to context-relevant discussions, but now that is gone.

You are bound to come across someone who is going to start talking about something uncomfortable or get you into trouble. People have a mob mentality and just about everybody thinks like "Geez thank God I am smart and part of [his political leaning]!"

You have to actually consciously unwire yourself from the modern world to be sane. If you were to let go and let society shape you, you'd be a constant defeatist and doomer who constantly keeps up with the latest world disaster. Let's say you are living in Norway and you hear that Afghanistan fell or something, you'll feel worried, despite it being a irrelevant event that you can't do anything about and doesn't directly affect you.

Technology has brainwashed us into thinking we are responsible to change world trajectory and that's just bogus and only leads to mental agony. Everyone should always remember that they're only responsible for themselves.

There's one last thing I can think of: IQ obsoleteness.

Humans aren't equal or the same and that's normal. Human intelligence (our capacity to function) is different too. Over the course of history certain jobs were naturally tailored to fit people of a specific IQ range. Let's say you have 86 IQ. You'll be working as a welder and you're completely content and happy with it. But technology will eventually replace your job, and your IQ could be too low for you to find any job that hasn't been replaced by robotic automation. We'll eventually run into something that I would call "IQ obsoleteness" where people of a specific IQ range would be considered obsolete and unfit to live... and that's the early seeds of eugenics.

Be careful what you wish for, we never feel this, but the existence of people worse than us is what keeps us sane. If the bars of excellence were high artificially, you are statistically poised to fail. maybe 80% of people have an IQ between 90 and 110. My English is not good enough for me to explain this but the existence of people worse than you in intellect or attainment allows life to be livable. If everything had extreme high expectectations life will become un-needingly difficult.

I've read about how people who will be laid off from their jobs due to automation will receive some form of subsidiary payment to make up for the job they lost but you really shouldn't trust this. The only thing that is sure to happen is that your job will get automated. What will happen to you and how you will be compensated is never considered realistically so you could only worry to what extent you'll be harmed because of automation.

The replacement of mundane jobs by robots will only serve to help Jeff Bezos and never you. Very fucking terrifying. Or it could be the best thing that could happen to humanity, you'll never know until it happens.
