Honestly I can't be mad at Payless for pulling this prank of considering how stupid and consumerist people are with money.

Superb video. It's both brutal and honest. I wouldn't be surprised if Payless edited it down into a series of TV commercials.
I'll also point out that all the fools gushing about the "luxury" shoes are women and male homosexuals. Birds of a feather.
I wonder how much of that was scripted, like almost all shit you see today. Funny though!

Even as a teen I made fun of the pretentiousness of it all.
I've since learned that there are instances of quality unseen to the eye on certain products. Leather jackets and furniture comes to mind. I once had a store representative explain to me what to look for when shopping for leather jackets. Good to know. I wouldn't have known otherwise. Except I've now forgotten, ha, except pay attention to the stitching.
But, by and large, this thing of appealing to your sense of accomplishment (I can afford to be here, etc. and then open your wallet accordingly) still looks like a scam going to where the money is.
They can't get me, having had a dime-store upbringing.
As a boy, I saw Mad Magazine would poke fun at this at times, such as selling you five large hula hoops as a proud Olympics symbol for your wall, or selling you a common everyday brick as a nouveau paperweight or something, I forget. This tapped into the same fun of making fun.
If you want to see this taken to a devoted extreme, notice the Supreme company who can paint anything a solid red, including an actual brick, cover it with their name from top to bottom, just one word 'Supreme', and the item will sell out immediately to people who wait in line or online to jump at the chance to own it.

The game was a cheesy home version pinball machine, painted over. Home versions are not as mechanically sophisticated as the commercial versions and thus are less desirable in the hobby. Repainted as Supreme, it sold like hotcakes within seconds.

People associate brands with street cred where I live a lot of times so having well known brands like Beats by Dr. Dre, Jordans, Apple, Gucci, etc gets you respect and attention while having lesser known brands usually gets you ignored or looked down upon. Once you stop consuming these "High End" brands people that once respected you and befriended you stop hanging out with you completely. Those people will never be your real friends.
That's the result of the vanity culture that's very big in society today alongside the Hip Hop culture mainly in urban cities and the broken and dysfunctional homes the youth grow up in.
