Thread: Conan Books

Today I got my disability deposit and I bought 2 lots (6 each) of Conan books. I can't wait to get them because I'm a big fan of the Arnold Conan movies and I'm going to read the old novels.

There's:
Conan The Gladiator
Conan The Defender
Conan And The Amazon
Conan The Source Of The Bloody Coast
Conan The Savage
Conan The Red Brotherhood
Conan The Magnificent
Conan The Rogue
Conan The Triumphant
Conan The Unconquered
Conan The Warlord
Conan The Victorious

I already have the books based off the movies, but these books are written as a stand-alone story.

My apologies, my bad, I can't help it, I'm the guy known for taking a 1973 Olds 98 four wheelin'!

My notoriety came from actually making over the mountain, less one entire exhaust system!

P.S. I also took that car ice skating...

Robert E. Howard's Conan was loyal to his friends and had many fine qualities but was too FTW for an Arnold movie. They didn't change him but did present him in a more favorable light. The books are different, but not by a lot. Remember too, most of this stuff goes back 60-80 years. Things were not so politically correct back then. Another thing, REH didn't get popular till the sixties, and he was long dead by then. He never got to enjoy his sucess and I have no idea where the money went.

I don't know if REH started this whole sword and sorcery thing, but Conan's popularity spawned countless other novels. Usually not as good but ok if you like this sort of thing.

H. Beam Piper is another author from the same period. His thing was more Science fiction. The Cosmic Computer and Space Viking are two of his better books. Old Sci-fi looks dumb cause they had to guess the future from long ago and they always miss, but HP wrote good stories just the same.

If somebody was into this old shit an electronic reader would be nice. Old stuff on readers is usually cheap. One's I got were more but that was a few years back. Usually, their sold in collections of a dozen or so. It is nice though, to see you can still get new paper if you want.

All 12 Conan books just came in and I'm amazed on how well taken care of they were. I think I'll start my Conan reading journey with Conan The Gladiator. I had it when I was a teenager, but never read it, but I lost it 20 years ago. Now I get to go on Conan's high adventure.
