    More sci-fi than sci-fi.

I know Iím as guilty as anyone else but Iím sick of talking about Covid. Since thereís nothing else being talked about these days I thought I might throw this in if for no other reason than to point out there is other shit going on in the world.

Have you heard of ITER? No? How about a tokamak?

My God, Jackoff has finally cracked, I knew it would happen!

No, I cracked a long time ago. That ship has long sailedÖ

Anyhoo, ITER is the latest, greatest attempt by mankind to initiate a world of nuclear fusion reactors. You can read about it here if interested. (Maybe itís my internet connection but I found the pages very slow to load initially.)

And yes it promises unlimited, clean, safe energy. Forgive me but Iíve heard that one before, and with temperatures in the 150,000,000 Degrees Celsius range I donít see how anything could possibly go wrong.

But whatís this got to do with Sci-fi?

Well, have a look at these pictures of tokamaks, basically the nuclear fusion core, and associated images. I donít think theyíd look out of place in any sci-fi show.

Thereís a saying in sci-fi circles that science fiction often inspires scientific developments. Personally I think theyíve got it backwards. I enjoy science fiction, but if you want a real thrill have a look around and see whatís actually going on.

Haha ! I can totally get that sentiment !!!

Regarding nuclear fusion, this topic has always fascinated me as a kid. I am not a physicist, but as far as I know, it generates absurd amount of energy for a given mass of fuel. I know all nuclear reactions (fission or fusion) generates a lot more energy than simply burning the fuel, but even among nuclear reactions, nuclear fusion of hydrogen stands apart. I remember joking when a friend was contemplating what if its viable to burn hydrogen instead of regular fuels, the byproducts are more eco friendly, to which I replied: what kind of "burning" are we talking about ?

Which brings me to a question I always pondered. If it was possible to safely control hydrogen fusion in small devices, say a battery, can you imagine the kind of explosives that can be made ?? Imagine a grenade able to completely level down an area measured in square kilometers or square miles !!

And lastly, a related topic, when talking about nuclear fusion, is about antimatter. Again, not a physicist, but I have heard that they can be made to collide with normal matter and they completely annihilate each other. As far as I understand, the energy produced here per unit of mass, will make hydrogen fusion, an insignificant blip on the sensors. If we reach this stage, what about the other scenario repeated with THIS ? I imagine a bomb made using this technology can have a similar impact as of a large asteroid hitting the planet and wiping out all life, or even more.. maybe converting the entire planet into a kind of asteroid belt, like what we have between orbits of mars and jupiter !!!

I am usually in favor of technological advancement just for the sake of expansion of knowledge, but in case of above scenarios, I am not so sure about my opinion !

We can have fusion drive flying aircraft carriers that get 700 miles to the gallon!

I sometimes think we should fusion the whole place and when we get to the Pearly Gates, look at St. Peter and say, "What were you thinkin'?" and then waltz right in. What's he gonna say?

And in other news, The frightened Snowflakes Club of South Carolina unofficially announced yesterday that a toilet paper embargo has been initiated against level headed people that aren't in a panic and shitting themselves. An anonomys spokes person said, "Now we have it all and you can't have any! Stop laughing at us! You won't be laughing for long!"
A spokesperson for the NRA just rolled his eyes.

Now, a word from our sponsors...

Maybe someone will press some button and you will find yourself being an embryo somewhere, and that guy/thing/entity/being (who pressed the button) giggling : "Did they really thought we have only one world ?!"

With all the shit I tried to pull on god? St. Pete's not gonna say a word, the trapdoor on the other side that goes straight to the hottest spot in hell is gonna open up and swallow me just when I thought I was in the clear!

At least that's my experience here. I'm like a mouse with a mouth full of cheese and a broken neck from the trap spring I didn't see coming!

    Fuck complacency!

We already have enough nuclear weapons to completely obliterate life on the planet, one more doesn't bother me that much. I would be more concerned with it happening accidentally.

Or flying cities, where the "nice" people can finally completely dissociate from the hoi polloi.

Well, nuclear weapons of today are very sophisticated devices, they require a lot of resources, money, materials, skilled manpower, to build them, maintain them and use them.

In scenario I was talking about, its like this... say I am mad at my neighbor cuz he looked at my dog the wrong way, so I lobbed a leaking cold fusion battery at his house, and ended up blowing his house, my house, and his other neighbors' houses !!!

    Fuck it, nuke the virus!

    Melt the ice caps!

Flood the planet! (again, except no ark, no survivors)

Giant meteor should have been here by now! I'm sick of waiting! I wanna see this dirt ball get hit by a bullet!

Hehe. Have you ever thought of playing the baddie in a Bond movie? - From Tower With Love!

That'll never happen! They don't like it when the bad guy wins, and blows up the planet!

    Re: More sci-fi than sci-fi.

    Few thoughts:

    (1) Anti-matter and matter colliding does result in complete transmission to energy, when they are opposing particles; e.g. positron and electron. Trouble is there's no anti-matter just lying around so its not an energy source.
    (2) ITER's been going for a very long time with seemingly no progress. They're still at the stage of attempting magnetic confinement. Nuclear Fusion only occurs under very specific conditions such as in the Sun which "uses" gravitational confinement. There's not enough mass on Earth for that so places like ITER are trying to think of clever ways to generate fusion reactions without putting in an insane amount of energy first.
    (3) If there were a From Tower with Love, what would the Bond girls be called? Pussy-no-more maybe?
    (4) We have fusion weaponry, that's what a hydrogen bomb is. However it requires a fission bomb attached to generate enough energy to kickoff the fusion reaction. So admittedly there are no pure fusion weapons as of yet.
    (5) If there were fusion grenades, my first use would be using them to write my name in the nearby mountains.

Or what about having your life controlled by machines?

    Daytona Beach Drone

    Tunisia Robocop

Now if we just add a few weapons here and there ....

Tower goes to Daytona Beach with his Ronsonol diesel air riffle (1300fps+?) then drones and seagulls start falling from the sky.

1300 fps? Sorry I'm a paddy and don't understand the measurement. fps? Farts Per Second? Is that how air rifles are measured?

It's "feet per second", with enough feet, it can run really really fast!
