    The Prisoner and kittens

I must admit that their are times in my life that stuff happens to me which seems to give everyone else a big chuckle. This is one of those times where not just the friends I live with, but you guys will also get a laugh. So to start this story off I will let you guys know that I am not a real big cat fan. I don't hate cats or anything like that, I just prefer dogs or parrots over cats. Now I live with my friend and his wife, both are big softies when it comes to animals and mainly cats, so you can see where this is going. My friends wife rescues this stray pregnant cat from outside, gives her to me and ask me to keep her in my room away from the other cats. Okay they are my friends so I have a hard time saying "no" to such a request. So this is this is the damn cat that is now my roommate.
    20150111_195824.jpg

Now growing up my father had me around a lot of different animals despite growing up in the city. So you might say that I am use to being around different critters that are just about to give birth. Now any animal that I have been around that is going into labor all have a major thing in common. They want you to leave them the fuck alone. Mind you this is something that normally an animal does not politely ask, they make a bold demand of being left alone. However with this fat cat, this is not the case. I was trying to enjoy playing GTA San Andreas and enjoying my late evening when this cat starts bitching at me (meowing a lot at me). I could not figure out at first what was going on, so I checked the food, water and sandbox to see everything is okay. I go back to play my game and as I am in the middle of a real cool shootout I hear this loud "Meow" again then this cat with claws out swipes at my chest. At this point my thought was "WTF", this cat has never shown to be mean to me or anyone. Then I noticed that she is licking her ass, naturally at first I thought she ate something bad and was trying to get the taste out of her mouth.

This can now is jumping in and out of this box I had setup for her and hunting all around my room, bitching up a storm. Then it dawns on me that she is probably ready to pop, so I try and encourage her to go into this box I have setup. Eventually this cat drapes herself across my lap and at this point acts as dead weight. As I picked her up to put her in the box, her first kitten was just dropping out. Once in the box I tried to go back to my game and leave her to her job. No luck on this, the damn cat is bitching up a storm and threatening to jump out of the box while she is giving birth. I shut the game off and turned on a TV sitcom to watch and sat next to her box with her. Now end result after a few days was this.
    20150114_052821.jpg
    20150116_232248.jpg

So as you can see I have six very healthy and happy kittens in my room now. Momma cat shot these kittens out in about 3 hours total time. Thinking back on it I am kind of surprised. This cat really did not know me, my friends wife was feeding her outside so I had almost no contact with this cat except for a few days before she gave birth. Now for some reason this cat wanted me to give her 100% attention while she was having these kittens, which as far as I know about cats is unusual. To top that off she was actually trying to give birth while laying on my lap. I guess the need for attention is strong with females across all animal lines, LOL. Now watching an animal give birth is nothing new to me, seen it a lot with all different kinds of animals. However I must admit this is the first time I ran into one that not only demanded my attention (like I can actually do anything) but also tried to give birth on my lap. I may not be a cat person, however these damn cats seem to say differently. Now I know what you are all thinking and don't worry. I made sure that this cat put my friends name on the birth certificate and I am labeled as the birthing coach .

I never was a cat person either ... but cats really like me, a lot.

Whenever I am at friends who have a cat the cats are attracted like magnets towards me.

Since I live in the rural desert with fields all around I have to have at least 3 cats to fight the vermin trying to seek shelter in my home, which they do with great efficiency.

I only had kittens once, a female friend lost her job and flat and could not keep the cat in her new place and I was short on cats that year.

This was also an rather expensive cat, a blue Chartreux.

Somehow she managed to not swallow the pill and the result was this:

    2015-01-17_1020.png

Honestly, the best time was when the little ones were a few weeks old and all over the place, quite funny to watch their antics.

Kittens, I think everybody should at least enjoy having some once in his live.

Well so far everything is going pretty good. Momma cat is taking care of them kittens better than I could ever ask, however like any typical twat she makes her demands. So now if I am catching some rest and forget to fill her food dish, she jumps on me with a big "MEOW" trying to wake me. The thing is that it is not just mamma that is giving me the "MEOW" she now has a choirs line to help her. So now what I hear is her "MEOW" along with "meow, meow, meow, etc". The kittens are very cute, they do not have their eyes open yet, however they are very healthy.

About twice a day now I get mamma cat demanding attention from me. This means that I have to look in on her kittens, pet her and all her kittens so that she knows she is doing a good job. Again this is something that mamma cat demands with a "MEOW" or by trying to sharpen her claws on my leg. My friends wife (my roommate) the one who dumped this cat on me, has came in to see the new kittens. Mamma cat will let her pet them for a few minutes then uses her paw to bring all her kittens close to her. If this does not send the message then mamma cat uses her paw to push my roommates hand away. To this day I don't know why this cat latched on to me, however I don't ask, I just deal with it. Good news is that my girlfriend wants one of the kittens so I am down to 5 to find homes for.

Most of you may not know this about me, however I did grow up around animals. Mostly it was dogs, hamsters, chickens, rabbits and quail, however a lot of livestock too. I also grew up hunting, mostly rabbit and deer. Even as a kid these different animals would gravitate to me for some reason. I've done things that most people have not done, such as petted a wild deer. The thing is that this also has a bad side to it. Since predatory animals will also gravitate to me, I have to keep an eye out when I am outside in the woods. More then once I have woken up or had the feeling something was near me to find out I had a raccoon or other animal sitting right next to me. One time when I was at a friends house, she was shocked to see one of the many feral cats jump up on my lap and start purring.

I am still not really a cat person, however these damn cats seem to not give a shit about that. In the next few days as they grow I will take more pictures and post them on here. I have a feeling that I will be blowing money on some cat toys for these kittens and loosing a lot of video game time playing with these kittens. I still get the feeling that my roommate did this because I have been feeling a bit down since being on disability due to a work injury. Well I guess if I can't haul a load of shit across the country I can make sure that these kittens are taken care of. Anyhow thanks for asking, these kittens are growing fast and very happy and healthy.

Oh another quick update. Mamma kitty's farts are getting better, they no longer cause me to taste color. Now they just kind of smell like burnt cat ass.

I am sad to announce that one of the kittens died. The runt of the litter just did not have what it took to survive. I have been keeping an eye on the kittens and somehow I missed this little guy and found out too late.

It happens Prisoner, the little guy probably got shoved aside once too often.

After putting the last one down, I didn't know if I'd want another critter. But time did it's work, and last week found me down at the crazy lady's gippo cat shelter. Gippo is logger slang for a private outfit run on a shoestring. This place was all that, but you can't bitch. Crazy lady didn't ask for money, I could of drove off with a free cat had I wanted. But that's no way to be, so I peeled off some twenty's and gave her what a local business shelter would of charged.

They had a shorthair tabby that was friendly without being pushy, and a nice looking longhair calico. But over to the side they had an area for those not tough enough to make it in the main room. There was an all black cat there. Your classic female runt, the smallest adult in the shelter. Why she let me pet her I don't know, because she has the same problem my last cat had. She don't like guys, and would much rather be around women. When she found my place has no other cats and no women, I had a POW. Only exploring she did was to find another hideout, and she's good at it. The middle of the second night she finally gave up, ate a few bites and hopped up on the bed. She's giving me a hard time alright, but I see it as a positive sign. I scared her good, yet she didn't just roll over. This one's still got spirit.

Okay here are some action shots of those kittens at play. They have their eyes open and think of me as their personal play toy.

How can anyone not love a face like these little tigers have. The last couple of days I have woken up with a few of them in my bed. So you might say my room is looking like the "Trouble with Tribbles" episode of Star Trek.

Okay I know that a few of you guys on here are heretics and keep cats. So I got to ask you guys a very important question about something with cats. Something that is very important and very urgent, something that can hold the fate of mankind in it's hands..

How to you poddy train a kitten? My kittens have starting shitting and I have no clue on how to poddy train them. I know how to train a rabbit better than a cat. Any help you guys can give me I would be very thankful for and so would the sheets on my bed.

    ROFL!

My technique was to put a litter box wherever they 'chose'.

However, as they never 'chose' my bed, that may not help you much!

    Re: The Prisoner and kittens

Don't have much experience with young kitten's, but this is what I'd try. Watch e'm when they wake up or have a snack. When they start sniffing around, pop e'm in the litter box. If I remember right they usually look around and maybe scratch some first.

Things is going good with my new one. She likes me now, and is well behaved. Something from her past still scares her though. Think now I have a inside cat that couldn't escape a young child. That's probably what got her a ride to the cat lady's shelter too.
Usually there's not a lot of happy ending's when a cat loses it's home. But it looks like this one beat the odd's.

Well, with my batch of kittens I bought a big litterbox and just put the little ones inside a few times as soon as they start walking.

Cats have the natural urge to burry their feces and do not need training for that.
They will poop and hide it under the litter.

The hard part is to train them to only use the box and nothing else that contains loose things .. like the earth in flowerpots.

Today I do not have a litterbox at all since my cats grew up but an cat door so they can leave the house whenever they want.

    Re: The Prisoner and kittens

    Thanks guys.

Yea the kittens had a couple of accidents and two of them were on my bed. However I did figure out really quick that between twitching a bit and scratching that a sandbox was what they were hunting for. I have a good sized sandbox for them and a quick trip to it with kitty in hand has proven to be effective. Now all of them use the sandbox, however one of the more feisty kittens sometimes tries and bury the other kittens.

Oh another thing I have found out is that kittens naturally love chicken, to the point were they are very aggressive about it. The other day I decided to settle down and eat some fried chicken while watching "The Munsters" on netflix. Before I realized what was happening I had one kitten running for me and the other 4 up on my lap helping themselves to the chicken. I guess that is what I get for turning my head for two seconds to take a drink. Thankfully I was able to fight them off and defend the chicken and my meal. It was a rough battle, the kittens were very aggressive and using a secret weapon that they have called cuteness. So next time I try to eat around them I'll have to be a bit more careful and start training them not to just take food.

You will find that Tuna is nigh irresisable to any cat. The scent of fish drives 'em wild.

You wondered why the mom and subsequent kittens were attached, it's "Imprinting". Something human females should have, means they bonded to you, and you first and only, which sets the standard for future cat relations, congrats, you are a surrogate dad.

I have a female cat, she adopted me, and did so because she was 4 months old, being attacked by an older cat trying to favor heat under my cars engine in a cold winter, and was smart enough to run into my flat at the time when I opened the door after hearing the cat fight. She adopted me, I couldnt let her go, and I never did.
