We are nearing ‘longevity escape velocity’ — where science can extend your life for more than a year for every year you are alive

"Technology hasn't just improved our lives; it's also extended them — considerably. Real acceleration emerged at the turn of the 20th century, when everything from the creation of antibiotics to the implementation of better sanitation to the increased availability of clean water, and the ability to tackle killers like cancer and heart disease has us living routinely into our 80s. The intersection of artificial intelligence, cloud computing, networks, sensors, robotics, massive datasets, biotechnology and nanotechnology is taking direct aim at the limits of human lifespan . . ."https://www.yahoo.com/finance/m/66354f24-37ef-3642-bddf-bd72ae7fb0eb/we-are-nearing-%E2%80%98longevity.html

For those guys paying lifetime alimony, sweet death may not come soon enough, but for the rest of us single guys, traveling and taking vacations on the Moon may be worth looking forward to! Might want to avoid vacationing in Wuhan though . . .

    From the article:

Beyond aging-related diseases, researchers are making the most extraordinary progress in the effort to cure inherited diseases. Of the nearly 50,000 genetic diseases, single mutations in the DNA cause some 32,000. Well, CRSPR to the rescue. This year, we saw the technology, which allows us to target precise locations in the gene code and then rewrite the DNA, erase sickle-cell anemia. This doesn’t mean they treated the disease. Erased—as in forever. Edited out of the code.
And once they've removed all these diseases what will they turn to next? Will they start to classify normal human characteristics such as height, eye and hair colour etc. as illnesses and start mucking about with them aswell?

In another few hundred years will humanity as we know it still exist? That's assuming they don't make some catastrophic mistake that kills us all off.

I've seen life in your eighties. First, all your teeth fall out. Then, your legs quit working and your family (or 'the state') puts you in a home where you wait to die. They say smoking takes ten years off your life, but those last ten years suck. So, I smoke like a chimney and drive Highway 25 in the Carolinas often. My chances of even reaching 70 are minimal.
