    on the matter of dreams...

Just happened to be reading an old textbook I used for a psych class.... getting to Freud/Jung deal about the importance of dreams...
whats the most bizzare dream you ever had??
    I got three:
one.. hunched over a sink of sorts, and I'm charfing up what looks like broken glass shards... no blood or anything like that...

two.. I'm in some sort of large library.. but between the stacks, I see groups of cavemen huddled around campfires.. (and no, they are NOT burning the books for the fires...)

three.. I seem to be in some video arcade... but a rather odd one.. most of the machines are for "classic" games... Pong, Donkey Kong, PacMan, Space Invaders..
but the machines themselves.... they were all the size of a UPS delivery truck.. my best guess is that I was seeing what an arcade might have looked like if the transistor had never been invented...

well.. thats mine... anyone else got ones to share???

Meh. Dreams is just your brain filing its memories. Mostly. It doesn't have a separate area to do this - memories are stored in the spots that experience the whatever-it-is that you are remembering. So the process of sorting through the memories and assigning emotional weight to them involves activating the areas that experience them.

    There are exceptions.

I recall one very vivid one where the wind was blowing, whipping things around, my car was flying, but it was a convertible, things were falling through the sky and being caught up again, and there was wind, wind, wind. So I woke up and repositioned the fan so it wasn't directly pointed at my bed. Problem solved.

Another one involved being lost in a park as the night was coming on. The last few people were leaving, getting the hell out of there before nightfall. The stars started coming out - it was cold, cold, icy cold and I knew I was going to die. So I woke up and put another blanket on. Problem solved.

Had this apocalyptic one - earthquakes, meteor strikes - on a night that there was a massive thunderstorm while I slept.

I don't put a lot of stock in dreams, is what I'm saying. They are just a peek into your brain's filing department.

Re: on the matter of dreams...

I had a dream once, more of a lucid-dream/vision that had me rushing to google in the morning.

I was in a bare room, like a cell, and the noise of a jazz band approached the cage door that opened to the hall and as the marching band passed I realised it was a New Orleans type funeral procession and when the coffin came to pass the cell cage-door the band and procession stopped and an angry man reached into the coffin and threw some raw meat from the corpse at me in the cell with just one word as he threw it, he, with hatred, fear, loathing and contempt in his voice shout "loupe" as he tossed the coffin morsel.

Then the band played on and the procession disappeared leaving me with nowt but a bloody morsel and raised hackles.

In the morning I googled loup and imagine my surprise to find that it is French for wolf?....
    And New Orleans...ex-French colony...
    And New Orleans...voodoo!
Me...A wolf?...What the hell is that about?
Wolves....scaring the bejayzus out us since forever!

In retrospect, I do actually scavenge upon society a bit, lurking on its fringes awaiting opportunity...a bit lupine but its survival mode.
Flow with whatever may happen and let your mind be free. Stay centered by accepting whatever you are doing. This is the ultimate. Zhuangzi

someone asked the poet Sophocles: "How are you in regard to sex, Sophocles? Can you still make love to a woman?" Hush man, the poet replied, I am very glad to have escaped from this, like a slave who has escaped from a mad and cruel master."

Dont worry about me. Worry about why you're worried about me.

well... at least the dreams I remember dont have women in them... dont need that kind of "reminding" as to what I cannot have..... (I'm frustrated enough without that.. problem is, I try to find ways to suppress my sex drive, and I get that "you need more medicine?"-treatment. Kobayashi Maru anyone??)
