I'm replying to Nacho in a new thread because I don't want it to get drowned in all the other replies. I'll put it on "nonmembers and opposing views" so that Nacho can reply if he likes.
My first reaction to Nacho's post was "that's bullshit, that never happened", but the more I think about it, the more I recall, and much of it is mostly accurate.
In respect of the toilets:
When I first found out about MGTOW, I was all keen to be activist and let the world know. I found the "post stuff in mens toilets" idea on the web somewhere. I printed off some stickers that had a link to Nacho's forum as a QR code. I was going for the curiosity angle: at the time, QR code decoders were not standard on everyone's phones, and I figured that only tech-savvy people would know about it. I think I put one in a mall, and I was going to put one at my local, but I knew the manager, and started to think things through, and realised just what a stupid idea it all was.
I was not handing out slips of paper, I certainly did not put "if you hate women, go to this forum" on anything, but if someone was doing that I understand now why Nacho's comments on the idea were as pungent as they were, if he thought it was me doing that. I thought at the time that he was a bit over the top, but now I have some context. It's nice to know, and I'm having to readjust my ideas about the incident.
I did make a post promoting the idea on Nacho's forum and was banned. I contacted Nacho and he was good enough to rescind the ban. I may have contacted Domains by Proxy to get his email - I recall using whois, so that's where it would have led me. Nacho's site did not have a Nonmember section, there was no other way to make my case. I wouldn't have asked Domains by Proxy to rescind the ban - what would have been the point? They just supply DNS services. As for "emergency", "relative", and "spam", I have no idea.
In respect of the communism:
I was banned by - I thought it might have been AceFrancis, but I kinda remember there being a number in the name, so it might have been fairi5fair - basically for being insufficiently Guns, God, and Freedom. Yeah, I'm to the left of a lot of people on these forums. Maybe it's because Australia was never a fruited plain waiting to be colonised, but is mostly inhospitable desert. In any case, I remember contacting Nacho again and protesting that the ban was not for being anti-MGTOW, but just because the mod didn't like my politics, and he unbanned me again I hope because I was being reasonable and the mod wasn't.
I'm still left of most people here, and I have never tried to disguise it. I think universal health care is a great idea, and I'm happy to support it with my tax dollar. In fact, just about every developed nation part from the USA thinks so, too. If that makes me a commie, the the US is the only non-commie nation north of the equator.
(I also think the 2nd amendment was a bonehead move, one which our new nation in 1901 was wise to not copy. Same comments apply.)
In respect of the money:
I did contribute to the site, and $500 sounds about right. I don't recall at any point saying "Nacho, here's half a G to not get banned". As I recall, I still wanted to do something for the movement, and contributing to Nacho's site was a good way to do that.
I was banned and unbanned a couple of times, more than a couple, and I recall concluding that yes, it probably was because I was a financial contributor.
And so what? How many of the other members there actually put some cash where their mouths were? I'm happy to have done it.
I have not donated money here, Jagr has never asked, and I suspect that he is financial enough to be able to afford hosting for a medium-small website.
In respect of my comments about Nacho:
One day, Nacho just up and hit the off switch on his forum. Gone. I had been contributing for at least a couple of years at that point. All gone. Yes, I was slightly pissed and so was everyone else.
The general consensus was that he had had some sort of breakdown. Plenty of reason to believe that: his posts had gotten more and more erratic.
When the forum came back on, there were banner ads all over it, including on my content that I had contributed to support the site, and yeah I was pissed about that, too.
It remains the case, however, that Nacho is a pioneer and we all owe him a debt. Maybe someone would eventually do a mgtow forum, but Nacho did it first. His "benevolent dictator" model of site governance worked great for a long time, and it's working well here, too. Staying away from reddit, wordpress, all the corporate "it's so easy to create a website" was and remains a smart move.
EDIT: You know, it would be great to hear the whole story from Nacho himself. Maybe we were all wrong, and Nacho's warnings about nefarious doings by Paul Elam aren't just ranting. Maybe his site was seized somehow, and those banner ads weren't his at all.
In respect of Keymaster:
Yeah, I thought Keymaster was Nacho. And I wasn't the only one. IIRC, the style was pretty similar. If I am wrong about that, well: I guess I was wrong about that. Forget why we kicked that guy, but my post at the time thinks it was well-deserved.
In respect of Paul Elam:
I thought Elam was doing God's good work. MRA, MGTOW, and PUA being the three "arms" of the men's movement.
And then his site started posting content by women.
Haven't kept track of Elam since I got banned there, too. I got a letter from one of his committee personally - not from the Great Man himself, of course - that when they brought down the new CoC they were specifically watching me (among others) for an excuse to kick. Didn't know I was known to important people, but there you go.
Finding out that the people who had it in for me on Nacho's forum were working for Elam all along - if Nacho is right about that, well, I don't know that I could wish for better credentials to be here.
In respect of my being a mod here:
Jagr asked me to mod the site back when the place was in a bit of a decline and most of the other mods were no longer active. I think he asked me because I was one of the most long-standing members that was still around.
I have never banned anyone for being insufficiently socialist. I have banned people for
- insulting other members
- being women
- trashing this site or mgtow in general
- being obviously, genuinely crazy
- being cunty about the fact that site has rules that apply to them
It's not my site - I just mod here occasionally.
And finally:
Relax! MGTOW ain't dead. The sheer number of "Where have all the good men gone?" articles in the media is heartwarming. There are some really great youtube channels - I'm liking Taylor the Fiend at the moment, although he's smart enough to plan for the day YouTube kicks him.I made it clear that if Elam got his way then MGTOW would be dead within a few years
I was all set to go with both barrels in my reply to Nacho's post, but the more I read, the less there is to complain about. Nacho is mostly just pissed that I thought he was Keymaster, which - sorry, man. Water under the bridge now.
The rest of his big secret revelations about Wombat: meh. Gave money. Got banned heaps. Turns out the guys banning me were shills. Was wrong about Elam.
I'm pretty good about it all. Anyone else think there's an issue?
