Thread: No women in Billboard Top 10 for the first time in 33 years

Already heard a female host whining about this on the radio. From what I've seen people aren't filled with rage, but I say just wait for it. The fact that this is considered a news story says all that needs to be said.

1 - Men write a lot of songs performed by female pop stars (see Taylor Swift)
2 - Again with the mandatory equality. The simple explanation is - these just happen to be the top songs right now, and they just happen to be performed by men. It took 33 years for this to happen again, yet it's the patriarchy's fault?
3 - All ten songs are about women

Pop music is normally the delivery vehicle for female music artists. But pop music simply has run its course IMO as it hasn't really changed that much.

Most of the female artists that do not fit into pop music criteria are doing more collaborations with male artists now to increase recognition for their own brand.

If women are complaining about this, it would be fun to tell them they are easily threatened. The word they love to use, threatened, being used back onto them. Then tell them to relax, that their egos can handle this, etc, etc.

Funny enough, something i noticed recently is that my ENTIRE playlist is all male. this wasn't on purpose or anything it literally is a complete coincidence that I didn't notice until now. I dunno maybe I just appreciate male vocals or relate more to men.

If women are complaining about this, it would be fun to tell them they are easily threatened. The word they love to use, threatened, being used back onto them.

OMG!!! I am so glad I am away from nagging whiny bitches. The one song thats been constantly played is that "Shape of You" song by Ed Sheeran. I fucking hate that song so much. It's so overplayed.

Yeah I tend to listen to male vocalists also but a good song is a good song so I'll give them that. My main issue with this whole thing is, why do people care? Why is it a news item every time there's ANYTHING that's not 50%+ female? Yeah dumb question, I know. Everyone who's reporting this is acting as if all these male pop stars got together in a secret meeting, and figured out how to get women off the charts for once. I came across some forum for females (not gonna link it) and it'd been posted as a new thread 3 or 4 times apparently. There were actually people complaining about all the dupes.

My next prediction is that females who get a 'featuring' credit and background vocalists are actually being oppressed by evil male singers and rappers. Wait for it.

The article itself doesn't shriek "patriarchy!", which is nice.

Why is the top 10 full of men? Because men have no choice but to work for a living, so they produce more. Chicks typically do a few songs and have a career of no more than 10 years or so, then they drop out - often to have kids. Adele. Kate Bush. Chicks often have just the one big album in them. Alanis Morrisette. Melissa Etheridge. Sometimes more than one, but it seems like they do a few albums and then they exhaust their topic of discussion. Nicky Minaj and Gwen Stefani both produced an opus - "Anaconda" and "Hollaback Girl" - and then they were kinda done. Might include Katy Perry's "California Gurls" in that category, too.

Men just keep plugging away. Because we have to.

I'm playing in a band and we have a female singer. I hope I won't get crucified head down for this but I actually really enjoy making music with my friends. There are no egos in our band and that's the greatest thing ever. Moreover, she has not a typical female voice. It's a bit similar to Cher her way of singing just to get you an idea.

Honestly said I like a lot of female artists. Just to name a few Kate Bush, Tori Amos, Cristina Aguilera which is a league of her own. Pink did some great stuff as well. There are many others to be named but the list would grow really long so I desist. Mostly I'm listening to male singers as well or bands. When it comes to music I leave gender roles out of the equation as long as it works. I dealt in the past with female artists as a session man and I'm aware that my friend and singer is a rare exception which might confirm the rule. They had big bad egos and weren't that great of a singer.

Maybe for the first time, Billboard has been meritocratic. Although I doubt that a lot. You go first in the top ten because your record company pays for it to make it happen not because maybe you wrote a great song and you deserved it.
Just my 2 cents

If you need vocal support to push in the gym its very unlikely a female voice will be powerful enough to do it.

When it comes of disco music or relaxing its fine, both can work.

I said it once. I've said it twice. Running all of those Harvey Weinstein types out of the biz would have repercussions.

I'm not much for female vocalists either except for jazz and bluegrass.

There is nothing at all wrong with that. There have been many, many superb female vocalists over the years. Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, et al. They can reach vocal high's that most men couldn't dream of - so they definitely offer a different dynamic to any given group.

Plus, they can also pop the kettle on and fix up some sandwiches after the gig's finished!!!

I'm in total agreement there CP. I went out with a singer once.

I say 'singer', I actually mean 'slag'. I'm so confused. I can't work out whether she was a singing slag or a slag that sang.

Not that it really matters either way now. I just hope that life is treating her poorly.

Imagine what it must be like to have no skill, competence, or ability...and to think that all of your failures in life are the result of "patriarchy" instead of your own fault.

This is one of the reasons women suck at pretty much everything. They're not willing to work hard at something, and they're not willing to accept responsibility for anything, including their own success in life. Instead they just whine and cry, and hope men will lower the bar enough that they will be allowed to participate and get some free handouts.

That's quite true. It's always been the easiest option to blame your failures on someone else rather than to take personal responsibility.

They stay pretty busy chasing the ebbs and flows of social algorithms, it's in their nature to criticize the tide every time it comes in or goes out. When men are being outpaced, outnumbered, and brutally destroyed you hear absolutely nothing, that algorithm is hidden under the carpet!
