Woman conned out of $30,000 by ‘astronaut’ who promised marriage but was ‘stuck’ in space

A fraudster has taken international romance scams out of this world by claiming to be an astronaut and conning a 65-year-old woman out of millions of yen, Japanese police announced last week.

The scam reportedly began when the pair corresponded through Instagram on June 28. The con artist, who has yet to be identified, claimed to be a Russian cosmonaut working in the International Space Station (ISS).

Romance between the two quickly blossomed. The “astronaut” eventually expressed his intent to marry the Japanese senior but said he could not leave the ISS unless he had enough money. “Even if I say it 1,000 times and it won't get across, I will keep saying it. I love you,” the trickster allegedly told the woman . . .

Comments: As Bugs Bunny would say, "What a maroon". I can’t believe there are still people that fall for BS like this. He might have been a Nigerian scammer, but he dang sure isn’t a cosmonaut.

Believe it - Look how many women get hooked up with dangerous men over and over again and never learn good judgement they just repeat it. Same with scammers for they’re all of the same cloth.

An ‘Astronaut’ in a govt. paid for space station needs $30K before he is allowed to leave? What the what? Maybe he was being held for a $30k ransom by Klingons? Or it could've been Darth Vader? Or Jabba the Hutt?

It's been my long held belief that most people get scammed because they are trying to get something for less than it's really worth or they believe someone who is or should be way out of their league is genuinely interested in them.

This story cements that belief even more.

LOL.... Hypergamy. She is trying to marry up. Her greed to marry the highest status man she could finds her scammed. A scammer is scammed.

I wonder if the guy identified himself as Major Tom.
