The Sun, one of the great bastions of reporting integrity. (sarc)

Loved the headline though, reminded me of Onion News as did the tenor of the article. It’s good to see a little humour in the media.

A question though: Why do men value looks so highly in women?

I’m not disagreeing as I also succumb to this.

There’s the animal instinct I suppose – it’s natural, but instinct can be overcome given the right circumstances.

With women though these circumstances are often missing. Even if they seem to be present during courting and in the early days of a relationshit they are soon replaced with manipulations and control tactics and some or all of the other traits we mention. When dating we are often on our best behaviour: the need to impress is strong.

This is part of the problem. The masks one wears when dating betrays our true nature. This leads to phrases like: “The person you date is not the person you marry.”

So, if AWALT, then what else do we have to judge them on other than their looks? I think they know this and this is why they fill their bathrooms with all these so-called beauty products.

They know they’re nuts and seek to deflect us from the mental with the physical. And it often works.

It's not at all remarkable that people judge by looks. Before you speak to someone and get to know them, looks is all there is to judge someone by.

I've seen allot of fucked up looking people that turned out to be some pretty fucked up people, looks are not usually deceiving, they're the norm...

I have to agree with you.... It's all biology, what weight the attraction characteristics play depends on many things as culture, social pressures, religion, personal needs, age, children, wanting children, and maybe even mensural cycle to name a few. The weight of the attraction characteristics can/will be changed by the other person by moods, actions or inactions, game etc.

Most of the attraction characteristics are related to futility and successful reproduction. Picking a mate that is healthy, good genes (looks and build), has or has the ability to supply recourses,(money...) desired personality, status etc. are some of the main ones. Some that are not are admiration, stimulation and can he/she make a sandwich? (caring), etc.

I say it is biology and instincts because even when reproduction is not possible or not wanted, the attraction characteristics are the same, the weights they carry may change. Not many blokes want to bonk a fat land whale that finds to too hard to get up and make him a sandwich after... (Poor genes, unhealthy, crap personality and doesn't care)

It's all part of human nature. When attraction is gone, love will be gone. (applies to all sexes)

I know I simplified it, there is much more, and I am still learning. Evolution has shaped us for millions of years.

I remember a Playboy comic that showed a man in a hotel room with a hooker. As he's undressing with his back to her she looks at his wallet bulging out of the pocket in his pants, which are hanging over a chair. She smiles and says,"Mmmmm. A nice fat one!" Of course, the guy is smiling, too. Little does he realize what she actually means.
