When Costello hit the music scene in 1977 I took him as some sort of musical rebel with his throwback 50s look at the time. This was before MTV and all I had to go on was album covers. I liked the blue pill song
Alison and for its melody and I added it to my repertoire of shower songs. I bought his debut album
My Aim Is True which had that song but I never went further with his music. I seem to recall he gave off a vibe of unpredictability but so did other bands of the time such as the Sex Pistols. I came to believe that, by the time their songs hit the radio, these guys are all businessmen and it's all an act.
