These knights also rigorously and continuously train in martial arts such as boxing, wrestling, etc. The bandits, pirates, and street gang members of Medieval Europe on the other hand were always in bad shape, didn't know how to fight, and were not experienced in war or honorable duels.

Medieval knights of Germany, France, and England were also a warrior class who trained as warriors from the age of 5. They trained in martial arts and other forms of combat from the age of 5. They then continuously train for the rest of their lives.

Simply put, bandits, pirates, and street gangs feared German knights, French knights, and English knights. Whenever these criminals are causing trouble, emperors, kings, princes, dukes, counts, etc. just call upon these knights to kill or brutally subdue these criminals and the knights are always successful.

Speaking of the vigilante types of these knights, some of the young ones of these medieval knights even have vigilante groups who engage in urban warfare against street gangs and serial killers. These vigilante knight groups are typically small in numbers. The age range of these vigilante knight groups are from 17-years old to 24-years old. They use weapons such as axes, pole axes, daggers, maces, morning stars, spears, arming swords, and their fists. But they're favorite weapon is the two-handed longsword. Members of these vigilante knight groups who reach the age of 25-years old separate leave these vigilante knight groups and stop being vigilantes.

As for the bandits and pirates of medieval Europe getting all the girls, some of these bandits and some of these pirates practiced a form of polygyny. In this polygyny, the bandit or the pirate will take as many feminine young women(modest, chaste, submissive, dutiful wives) as they can and make them their wives all at the same time.

The bandits and the pirates are extremely attracted to feminine young women while all of the feminine young women of Medieval Europe are extremely attracted to bandits and pirates.

Each of the wives know that she isn't the only wife and each of the wives actually love their bandit husband or pirate husband for it. They love having sex with their bandit husband or pirate husband and they love taking care of their bandit husband or pirate husband such as cooking for their pirate husband or bandit husband or bathing their pirate husband or bandit husband. The bandits and pirates of Medieval Europe were the spiritual ancestors of modern Western bad boys such as street gang members, Italian Mafiosi, Russian Mafiosi, etc. Other spiritual descendants of the pirates and the bandits of Medieval Europe are mellow in being sociopaths and these mellow spiritual descendants are the bully highschool athlete students, the violent rowdy punk rockers, the rapist violent college frat boys, the cold domineering opportunistic rich male businessmen, the rapist abusive violent musicians, the abusive violent cops, the sociopathic modern military men, etc.

So yeah, this is how modern Western nice guys and modern Western bad boys came to be.

Morality and chivalry may have similar roots, but medieval knights were no different to any others and they would take or leave these notions on a whim.

The whole notion of chivalry is a fairy tale. They were soldiers acting on the orders of their masters. Nothing more.

True, its like reading a script from a bad American B-movie of a film very loosely based on actual events. Mark twains 'A Connecticut yankee in King Arthurs court' perhaps? Ignores fall of Rome and its aftermath, ignores the Dark Age, Feudalism, rise of the church of Rome, migrations, wars, noble pastimes, fashions, oriental influence but most importantly it ignores the role of the Troubadores who elaborated Arthurian legends and imaginary codes of conduct which were never-the-less somewhat adopted for some circumstances most notably in the Melee becoming Jousting, ransoming noble prisoners, hunting conduct and codes and of course....romance. Also, not that its an issue, it could go unremarked although it does smart somewhat (as an English gntlmn) but Mr Kryptic, blessings be upon him, has got the Battle of Agincourt (1415) exactly the wrong way round. In a breach of the codes of conduct of warfare of the day it was Welsh and English commoner archers who mowed down the nobility of Europe who rode themselves into a boggy bottleneck expecting an easy win. With the incoming gunpowder and ordnance technology a few years later, its seen as the end of an era. Modern iteration as NorthwoodsHermit says: "Highly unlikely human nature has changed since the beginning. Women have always been hypergamous and always will be. There have always been bad boys and nice guys." He's right, human nature. I can't blame anyone or anything. My bullshit perceptual-set was mine alone and was never influenced. You have that exactly backwards.

Prisoners were primarily taken for one reason; ransom. If it looked like you could be ransomed, you were either captured or allowed to surrender. If there was no prospect of ransom, you were butchered out of hand. The events at Agincourt added a few wrinkles to that simple equation. First, there were too many wounded and otherwise disabled Frenchmen of quality to properly secure so the English troops killed them and looted the bodies instead. Second, during a part of the battle when it seemed that the overwhelming French numbers were finally going to break part of the English line, the English began to kill those prisoners already captured for fear they would break free.

Taking prisoners and accepting surrenders were nearly entirely an economic decision.

Chivalry and it's conjoined twin, the idea of courtly love, are post-medieval constructs further twisted centuries later with a large amount of Victorian romanticism. Nothing resembling what people in the 21st Century think of as chivalry existed during the medieval period.
