Thread: Should we re-examine the open borders policy for new members?

Recently, in what appeared to be a mini-forum invasion, we saw a series of one word troll posts, posts from new joiners which were unintelligible and post which were mentally unstable.

Thankfully the disturbance was mild - it could have been much worse. Perhaps this was just a practise-run by bad actors from the anti-MGTOW crowd. However I'm mindful that we've also seen the move to classify the manosphere, including MGTOW, as gateways to hate and violence under domestic terrorism.

Which begs the question, if we should carry on with business as usual until the next forum invasion, which could be many times worse? Or perhaps until the forum is infiltrated with agents compiling name lists?

I'm thankful for the open-borders policy, which allowed me as well as other MGTOWs fleeing the Reddit and Ruqqus purges to find a home and am mindful that it has been half a year since the purges, more than long enough for refugees to find a new place and settle down. That said, the open-borders policy appears to have come at a cost - some long-time members have had their patience run thin and repeatedly expressed frustration at the constant influx of non-MGTOW posts, some even choosing to self-ban to remove themselves from the forum.

Hence is it now timely to re-examine the open borders policy for new members?
What does everyone think?

It's the tradcucks that hope for a return to the Good Ole Days of Marriage & Family, aka male usury, exploitation and disposability, that really fry my balls. I'm an Open Border's MGTOW Member but have no problem providing a well thought out, written thesis for my MGTOW degree and the privilege to comment in this forum.

Yeah, the usual guidelines (e.g., intro) were suspended because of the high volume, I believe. Now that the "rush" has subsided, getting back to the original parameters might be a good idea. Mods' and admin's decision, of course.

Of course, the decision is entirely up to Jagrmeister.

Unboxxed previously mentioned needing some data to present to Jagr - hopefully this thread will function as that.

I would go with more of an intro than we have now but less than we used to require. If their jerks, throw them out.

I've never been on a forum where trolls run amuck, so I could be wrong. But most of the objectionable types around here took themselves out sooner or later.

I support requiring the intro posts again.

I know I'm still fairly new here but I think stricter entry requirements would be a good thing.

I'm new here and benefitted from the open-door policy. So maybe I'm one of those people who move in and then want others like me kept out. But in any case, my impression is even with the high quality of moderation here, there is a lot of trollish activity creeping in. Frivolous questions draw a lot of attention and energy. And members who might better fit on a PUA or CHAD forum stir up trouble for their own narcissistic purposes. If it's less work for the moderators, something closer to the former intro policy might be worthwhile. It's the old "ounce of prevention.." thing.

I joined after the Intro requirement was relaxed too but I did still write an intro and like yourself I am not a troll. I have just noticed lots of new(ish) members coming writing crap. Maybe along with the Intro requirement there can be a ban on posts until that Intro is written and approved?

I'm still very new here, (less than a week, I think) but if my opinion counts for anything I want to say that I was grateful for the open-door policy.

The intro requirement should be re-instated. Just IMO of course, I'm not a mod.

But that requirement was very good in that it pretty much meant that all members were in fact MGTOW and not PUAs or tradcucks or other kinds of trolls.

I understand if there is not enough mod bandwidth to be reading a bunch of intros. But there is a way to read something quickly and get the gist of it; see if it's legitimate and not just drivel or word salad.

The introduction worked well as a filter. As this is a world wide forum not all introductions were replied to straight away. Introductions take up mod time, time that could be spent filtering the threads. I think it is a great thing that people voluntarily give their free time to mod a forum we can all use. I am not about to try to tell someone else on how he should be spending his free time to benefit me.

A few trolls slip in, so be it.

This forum is a lot better than some of the other forums out there past and present. It is free. it is advertisement/banner free. I am thankful for what is provided as it is now.

As long as we're talking about how to move forward, I would suggest that the requirements, if they are re-instituted, be relaxed a bit.

While I appreciate the need to keep out trolls and people who might want to undermine the site, I thought the original screening process was a bit tight.

It was almost like a purity test. Are you a "real" MGTOW? No? Then you shall not pass! Into the abyss with you!







Maybe we can relax the requirements a little, make them a little less stringent. Perhaps we don't need to disallow people who are not dyed-in-the-wool MGTOW but instead are just leaning in that direction yet not fully committed?

It's nice to have a MGTOW space after all the shutdowns, but we don't really benefit from an echo chamber, either, where all we hear are opinions that reinforce what we already believe. Discussions are better when there is a diversity of opinion.

I'm not saying relax the standards completely. I'm just saying maybe loosen them a little.

Our problem in the past was consistency. One guy would get peppered with questions and another wouldn't be asked any. Spill your guts and hear nothing but crickets chirping? That ain't right.

In 2014 I posted a brief but honest intro. Mr. Wombat, who was not a mod then asked for a story and they got one. Was all over in a few hours and I did it at work. Far as I know, no mods were involved. Don't remember getting a yes or no either, they just let me post.

I suggest this; When an intro comes in, have whoever's logged in and interested look it over. Request a story or ask them a question or two. Especially if their being brief or evasive. If their answers sound good, do nothing but maybe keep an eye on them for awhile. If you don't like their answers report it and let the mods sort it out.

I think the mods got better things to do than approve every rookie who push's the button. Put some of it on the members, we don't want trolls either. If we're wrong, you can throw them out later.

If I owned a bar or nightclub, I would nickname my top bouncer "Telephone", and hire him every night of the week with overtime on the weekends!

Fuck throwing the book at them, use the phone!

The topic and reasons to go MGTOW have been beaten to death & the horse has disintegrated into particles at this point, we hear about other opinions every day, every relationship & breakup story or silly news article.

Having a bunch of dissenting purple or blue pillers that can't fully put their logic & reasoning to use would be annoying to deal with since we see that cognitive dissonance in the everyday world already.

It's a fact: MGTOW will always be under attack. I understand not everyone wants to write an intro, but at the same time it helps to weed out new members. It doesn't need to be fancy, just a way to know if the person can write and is willing to spend a while to make a readable paragraph.

Just my opinion, and I speak for myself only, but I'm good with the open-door policy. We haven't really been inundated with trolls. If we were, I would be more for the old policy. We've had some trolls, but they got quickly shown to the door. I could live with either policy, but right now I'm more in the open-door camp for the reason that if someone came along really needing help, he could get that help quickly.

Like I say, just my opinion. I respect all other views.
