It doesn't necessarily work that way for women. Women have a bizarre urge to be attracted to threats and then to somehow subdue or neutralize the threat so as to make it non-threatening.
An interesting Rorschach for this comes in fiction written by feminists. Often (not always) the only "good" and "decent" male characters in those stories are either gay or broadly non-threatening. A passive, soft-spoken, conflict-averse, obedient, submissive mega-beta male, essentially. Now, there's a clear and obvious disconnect there as those same female writers chase the bad boys just as much as you'd expect. They crave the total opposite of the good male characters that they write.
Now, the entire purpose of the pre-feminist Western social order (call it "the patriarchy", if that works better for you) was to minimize and mitigate women's influence on society in general and men in particular. Why? Because women experience an attraction to a strong man... and simultaneously experience an instinct to utterly undermine that man and bring him to his knees.
A fictional example of this is one of the SuperMan movies, where Margo Kidder (MARGO FUCKING KIDDER!!!) cockteases SuperMan into giving up his power for a roll in the hay. I can believe a lot of things. But SuperMan giving up his strength just to fuck Margo gd Kidder is just too much to buy into. Ymmv tho. But me personally, I wouldn't fuck 20-something year old Margo Kidder with a stolen dick, the crazy bitch. But I guess SuperMan would, ugh.
A real world example of this is Meghan Markle cockteasing Harry into giving up his title. All of you should understand that one reason why royal marriages were arranged (back in happier times) was precisely to prevent someone like Meghan Markle marrying someone like Harry. Hell, the king of England abdicating the throne just to chase some American skirt arguably led to World War II.
A hypothetical example of this is my opposition to a female President. Because I can't shake the suspicion that she would smear, say, Vladimir Putin on the campaign trail on the one hand... but on the other hand, fuck his brains out during his first state visit. Or she'd try to anyway. God only knows how that could end.
Fictional or real or hypothetical, the behavior is the same. A woman is attracted to a strong/accomplished man and then she henpecks him into mediocrity and submission. Thus, he's no longer "threatening" to her. That's a woman's natural instinct but it can only happen in a society friendly to feminism.
