If you have never had to deal with the issue on a personal level, it becomes meaningless. I lost a child to the procedure because had my wife carried the child to term, she would have died sooner than she did. Both my child and wife are dead.

We both lost a child to this. Take my word for it, neither one of us felt anything but hideous anguish and grief.

And your wife probably carried the guilt, seeing herself as a defective female. That must have been hell for her. Please accept my condolences, sir.

She was diabetic and had lost both of her legs and 95% of the sight in her remaining eye when she had her ninth, and final, heart attack. I awakened next to her cooling body at 5:25 a.m., August 31, 1999. I tried to revive her, but to no avail.

I would not wish this death on anyone.

Welcome to life. There aren't any guarantees save for death and taxes. I appreciate the condolences, but I married her knowing her life would be short. I loved her and hated the circumstances.

Captain, I'm sure the rest of us feel the same way. Sorry for your loss.

The primary problem with being widowed is that of social isolation. The attitude toward the widower is one of "You'll eventually get over it."

To some degree it is true, but the social/psychological support is almost nonexistent. We are left to "tough it out" because we are men and shouldn't have any difficulty when it happens to us.

The child is/was as much my blood as it was hers. My wife was an inherent part of my life.

There's an old saying: "Death can be expected, but it is never timely." Truer words have rarely been spoken.

In life, we lose everything, including our own lives. No one escapes. Love is the most costly asset by default. Billions have come and gone before us and billions will come and go after we're all dead and totally forgotten.

Our shared guilt came from our faith in God above. Neither of us wanted to end a life on an unwarranted basis. The expression "our own private Hell' took on an especially horrific meaning. The moral question of losing her life as well as that of the unborn child causes incomprehensible pain and stress.

She was slowly dying from diabetes and kidney failure. Giving birth to a child would have killed her then and there. There was a strong possibility that neither of them would have survived.

You are condemned if you do, yet condemned if you don't.
