Negro means "black" in both Spanish and Portuguese languages, is derived from the Latin word niger of the same meaning. The term "negro", literally the Spanish and Portuguese to refer to Black Africans and people with that heritage used “black.” From the 18th century to the mid-20th century, "negro" (later capitalized) was considered the correct and proper term for African Americans. It fell out of favor by the 1970s in the United States.
You understand now why they wouldn't want to be called negro? It's not because it's too uncle Tom.

What would your daughters' reaction be if you told them that Lara Logan, Elon Musk are African Americans?

The rhetoric about race has gotten ridiculous over the past 5 or 6 years. It is unbalanced and irrational. The people spouting this stuff have lost all perspective. "America is a racist country, black people are nothing but victims and there's nothing they can do about it, because America is irredeemably racist." And here I was, thinking we were making progress. But no, we're all horrible white people with a horrible past, and we need to flagellate ourselves endlessly for the sins of other people.

Anyway, I don't want to go on a rant. But you're fine. If someone thinks describing a person as "black" is racist, they've lost the plot. For the word "black" to be racist would mean that the word is an insult, a put down. But "black" is just a descriptor of an ethnicity, like white or Indian or Asian or whatever.

If you ask a black person whether calling someone black is an insult, they will laugh and wonder WTF you are talking about. This is a white thing. White guilt. White self-consciousness.

It makes no sense. The same illogic would apply to men and women, then. We wouldn't be allowed to refer to someone as a man or a woman, because using gender to describe someone is "sexist." lol. So ridiculous. You end up having to twist yourself in knots to get a simple sentence out. "Um, I saw this person today. He and/or she and/or them, uh, was/were, uh ... never mind I forgot what I was going to say."

I think you're right about the white guilt thing. I've never heard a black person say they don't want to be called black. But white "journalists," political/social commentators on tv and social media clowns create solutions without problems. Like when they started calling people of Hispanic ancestry "Latinx." even the people they were referring to where like "WTF?"

I think changing your group's preferred terminology is a way to play the victim status game. For example, in LGBTQIA where q is 'queer' yet that word has traditionally been classified as a pejorative and I would assume if you went around calling gay or bi people that, they would be offended and claim victimhood. An assumption, I know. NAACP is the same in a way. If you called black folks 'colored' in the grocery store, you'd get a beatdown you wouldn't forget. Yet it's a word that comprises the name of their flagship lobbying/civil rights group.

The pronoun thing is a way for people to play the 'you got it wrong, I'm offended and therefore a victim' game on an individual level. If you let a person or a group continually move the goal posts and play along with it, this ridiculousness is what you get.

Re: Racism - Let's talk about it.....

This is like the other thread about how it's now sexism to describe a man as bald in the uk. It's sheer absurdity. As the woketard rhetoric about this stuff escalated it had some positive effects on me. About a decade ago I realized both political parties were batshit crazy. Prior to that I really believed the left was better. Sometimes the worst of it comes from the right, but currently the left is leading the charge of lemmings. I'll never have anything but contempt for either side anymore.

I also realized that I am a misanthrope. Collectively, I pretty much despise the human race. The concept of "contemptus mundi" describes it well. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contemptus_mundi

Individual people of any race or identity I can form friendships with, I can respect anyone worthy of respect. I'll give any individual a chance, but collectively it's hard to feel anything but disgust for humans.

Some of the worst trash in the world is white (Caucasian). There are always those that will refuse to take responsibility for where their life goes and what they do with it. I really don't care what someone does for a living as long as its honest and upright. Respect is earned, not given.

I can't keep it all straight. Too many agendas. Whatever another person's skin color is, all I see is another human being just trying to slog through life without getting too scuffed up in the process.

    Just like me.

In just my life-time, we have gone from Colored, to Negro, to Black, to Afro-American (this one was in vogue for only 20 months, circa 1969-71) to Black, to African-American, and back to Black.

    There is your problem.

You sent them to a political indoctrination center instead of a school.

For 7 hours a day, plus the time that they are doing homework, they are marinating in the enemy's values, not yours.

You are paying someone else to teach your own children to hate you, hate themselves, and hate the civilization that made them the safest, most well taken care of, healthiest, and most protected children to ever live. Not even Pharaoh's children had it so good.

It's well established that women get punished less when committing the same crimes as men. I just simply apply the same reasoning to racism or any other form of "hate crime".

I don't see why beating someone up for their skin colour, religion, sexuality should get extra punishment over equally mindless "non hate crime" such as beating them up for wearing the wrong football shirt.

Likewise I fail to see how the kid who gets relentlessly bullied at school because he has big ears / big nose or other distinguishing features suffers any less than the victim of racist bullying.
Men are becoming MGTOW by the millions, most without ever having heard the term. They are simply doing what all living organisms finding themselves in a toxic environment do. They adapt to it or remove themselves from it. Females are not liking either the adaptations or the removal.

There's no difference at all. A crime is a crime. The motivation is the same. Invoking color, gender, etc., is meaningless. If crimes are punished according to the magnitude of the offense, there needn't be any concept, or classification known as a "hate crime".

Here's an awesome example of stupidity. In Scotland the Woke dickheads want to ban kilts! The reason? Kilts are racist! So kids can embrace every culture except their own, this is to make them "World Citizens". They are showing their true colours now, we always knew it was about Globalization but now they are no longer hiding it.

Here is the solution: "That is not a kilt. It is a skirt. You are not transgender phobic, are you?"

LOL Love this take. I'm a person of color and what you had above describe me. Usually I don't care about race, but I get called Uncle Tom once in a while. They say I have a "white man, in a black man's body." I'm like, "HUH? What are you taking about??" I just don't care about race, and I see no color. A white man says the same thing, sees no color, and he's still called, "Racist".

By the way, I fucking hate Critical Race Theory. It should be banned in most states.
