I predict at some point a major rise in traffic to goingyourownway.com

They've hassled the reddit sub since its inception, then dreaming up the most absurd of reasons to quarantine it. There's even a sub named MGTOWBan. There's another one named MGTOW2, which is more strict against rant posts, but I predict that Reddit will eventually cave to the wokewimps and ban both. When that happens, expect a flood of traffic here. MGTOWs at reddit have talked about what to do in the event of a ban, and most say to just use the Duckduckgo search engine (not google) and find a MGTOW site with a BBS. That would be here.

It would be ironic if the woke/PC/feminist bozos "win" the Reddit war because we'll all continue alive and well with no Reddit interference here.

Here's my revision of Reddit's MGTOW quarantine notice.

Re: I predict at some point a major rise in traffic to goingyourownway.com

Do reddit MGTOW people in general even know this site exists, do you think? We do not have "MGTOW" in our URL to come up in a search. I searched google using that term and we never showed up in the 14 pages of hits that I got. (Although, like you pointed out, we do come up on the first page using DuckDuckGo. Hmm... does that mean we have already been blacklisted by google?) Not that I'm complaining. Jagr, the owner of this site, once wrote, "We have no interest in being the biggest MGTOW forum." Whatever we have settled down to be over the years, that's who we are.

We have been described by visitors on multiple occasions as an intellectual type of site (as compared to other MGTOW sites) and maybe people prefer the other places if they feel more comfortable to say all sorts of non-MGTOW banter. Mostly, I think most people settle down with just one site they like the best and then stick to that site. It's all cool to me.

And then, we are very much on top of just who we let in. Here is something I wrote last March:

I've been reading r/MGTOW2 tonight and there is support for emotional relationships and marriage in different threads/posts there, and still calling that MGTOW. They must not screen out those folks. There is also a group called r/MGTOWL (for MGTOW Lifestyle) that bills itself as pro-feminist and with "sympathy for women", created by a guy who states he can "no longer call myself MGTOW" yet still likes the acronym! Just goes to show that any registrant saying he is in the MGTOW groove over there is still not saying enough for us over here.
Jagr purposely set up site rules to avoid the pitfalls that he says have ruined other MGTOW sites, even causing them to fail. So, if there was a mass migration from less-disciplined places such as described above and who did not already know about us and what we do and don't do, and if they expected automatic transfer, well our Principles are likely different than what they are used to, and perhaps also our Intro process.

We'll just see what happens, if and when it does.

    Thanks for the post.

Re: I predict at some point a major rise in traffic to goingyourownway.com

Most of the MGTOWs at reddit know not to use google, but rather duckduckgo. Google is a huge, greedy corporation that has to yield to all the woke bullshit lest its profits get hurt. Everyone at Reddit MGTOW has been saying to use Duckduckgo for ages. And if you type "MGTOW forum" into Duckduckgo, this place is the first one that comes up. There are some idiots who twist and warp MGTOW, but there are way more solid MGTOW dudes over there who are just fed up with the rotten courtship and marriage system that is stacked against men.

The plan of action in the event of a ban has long been to 1. do a duckduckgo search and 2. migrate away from reddit. That's why I think it's highly likely that a mass of people will come here. You guys will be able to keep out the trolls and antis.

I found this site by searching "MGTOW Forum" after the other MGTOW site died and I found this one through Yahoo.

I personally don't want a whole bunch of traffic here. Selfishly, I like to be able to use this site as a place to vent with like-minded people who get me. I don't want this place to be too big. That's just my 2 cents.

I don't mind if this site gets bigger, because there are topics I made since I been here that haven't had a single reply yet. Such as favorite wrestler, BBQ pit boy videos, and MGTOW Three Stooges shorts and so much other stuff.

So I don't mind more opinions from more new men members. I just don't want topics to get so out of hand like "You don't have a country anymore" topic, because I keep getting emails over and over and over about it and I don't care anymore about the topic.

I just googled "MGTOW Forum" and we showed up 8th on the list, with a reference that I believed to be us 1st on the list. I didn't go through the whole thing to find out if it was about us. (there are at least 10 pages of posts), but it sounds like us:

@ Resident Evil 7...well you are more than welcome to post to topics that you find of interest. I'm sorry you get emails about the "you don't have a country anymore" topic and you don't find it interesting. I however find it very interesting and there are those here that seem to as well.

Those emails could probably be handled via a notification setting, right?

Yes. You can click on the Settings tab in the upper right corner of your screen, then, on the left column under My Settings, click on General Settings to be taken to a bunch of user options.

Under Messaging & Notification is the option Default Thread Subscription Mode. That is the one. The choices are:

    Do not subscribe
    Instantly, using email (default)
    Daily, using email
    Weekday, using email

You can change this setting by selecting from that dropdown menu then click the Save Changes button at the bottom right corner of the page.

Please note this has nothing to do with receiving an email any time someone sends you a PM. That is a separate user option.

I set mine to Do not subscribe because I won't need emails to prompt me to come to the site, of course. We can always look to see what threads got responses by viewing on the home page at the bottom where the Latest Posts section displays them by newest first. One does not even have to be logged in to see this.

And, as you may know by now, when you open a thread by clicking in that section, if there are new posts in it that you have not seen, in the thread at the top in the black bar is a button called View First Unread, very handy in a large thread. Alternately, higher up on the main page where the sub-forums are listed, the right side of each forum entry on that list shows the latest thread posted in it, and the poster. By clicking there, you are taken directly to that post.

Please don't look at it as getting out of hand. Members go where their interests are. I, too, have started threads that garnered no posts. But that doesn't mean no one found it interesting or useful. Perhaps such experimentation is how we each get a feel of the site. It's all good. Within the Principles, it's all good.

I'm another one who'd prefer this site remain low-traffic. We've got some decent people on here. But that's the sort that'll go away first if the site gets too crapped-up with noisemakers and dopes.

I think it helps that GYOW is a web forum rather than a social media forum. Aren't web forums sort of "1990s" and ignored by most people under, say, 35 or so?

My sentiment. The now-defunct mgtow.co was like this place. It was meant to be for intellectual discussions between like minded men and sign-up was done by invitation. It was kept as such for a while until the popularized idea to let in more people crept in. That began its destruction till it was no more.

I've seen the mgtow reddit and even though you may come across a well thought out post every now and then it's mostly the same crap that usually crumble great forum like this one. I hope you guys don't allow it, or better yet tighten up the admission process.

Those other sites like the mgtow reddit were providing us cover. People need a place to vent but there are some who are just "noise-makers" and infiltrators. Those guys need to stay on sites like reddit. They don't need to be here.

I've seen others say this as well. Ha, "noisemakers and dopes" is a great phrase. I can't improve on it. I know what you mean. I know, myself, I would not want to hang around a site like that.

And, I've seen this happen outside of MGTOW where the best ones leave first. I've mentioned that I run a hobby website. It's not a social forum but there was a popular and separate website, a social forum for the hobby, that had been going on since, say, 1999. The people in the industry of our hobby participated regularly there. Their input was valuable and respected. It's what made that forum great. To have easy access to such people in the know. That was gold. As an unmoderated website that it was/is, there was an eventually decay when new people came on board and they had no appreciation for what was already built there, bringing squabbles, foul language, crude behavior (including the stuff where a new guy shows up thinking he's going to make his splash with his online persona, hey aren't I the cool edgy guy whom you'd like to know. Ugh, I hate that.) The industry people, one by one, started dropping out from participation. None of them actually said goodbye, they just quit posting. They don't want to be associated with the new lower standards of behavior that they saw. Some of them later told me this. Can't blame them as they are a class act. Eventually, people on that forum there looked around and noticed that none of those guys posted anymore. Today, that site lacks the quality it used to have and my guess is that many folks there today have no idea what a fine place it used to be. They don't know what was lost. Only the old timers know. So, that site has a new tenor. And life marches on.

Yep, I've left about a half dozen forums that suffered the same fate.

You old enough to remember the Usenet? This was in the pre-WWW days, where there was NO moderation, because the forums (or Usenet groups, as they were called), didn't physically exist on a single server. Usenet content was distributed amongst many servers, so it was impossible to moderate. Man, those were the days. You could tell someone he had no idea what the fuck he was talking about and not get doxxed and firebombed by black-clad domestic terrorists for speaking the truth.

Yes, but I just don't remember if I was ever on it. This may not have been Usenet, but I do remember at the local community college, guys would play Star Trek on the mainframe computer, something about always needing to make printouts after each "move" to showing the new relative positioning between planets, enemies, stars, and the Enterprise, of which I recall one of those was presented by an asterisk. There were no monitors so printouts were used. Slow printers with large fanfold paper. I can hardly remember this, maybe you know what I am talking about?

I barely remember in the 80s when file compression was a thing with your PC. We were all passing around floppy copies of PKARC, a free version of ARC made by Phil Katz, a smart man who died in 2000 at only 37 years of age, of alcoholism. It was like he was at the forefront of the shareware movement. At the time, I had believed PKARC was bootleg but now I am not so sure. RIP, Phil Katz.

Phil Katz, that's the dude who created the zip file format. That was a HUGE contribution to computing. I didn't realize he was dead. What a bummer. RIP, Phil Katz.
