    Re: MGTOW Music Challenge

Sorry to get a bit off topic here, but I think that this needs to be said.

In my youth (the early 1980's) we had a diversity in music that was reflected in the mainstream media and in the charts (in the U.K. at least).

We had tracks like "The Beat - Stand Down Margaret" calling for the U.K. Prime Minister to step aside because everyone knew she had lost the plot. We had tracks like "The Specials - Ghost Town" reflecting what a shambles was being made of governance (no doubt many of our U.S. citizens can empathise what with the rust-belt and all). And there were many more, all being given air time.

Where is this today? Well we have to look online, seek it out for ourselves; it's there but hard to find amongst the myriad of nonsense that is constantly thrown at us to divert us from that which is important.

Give me music that inspires, that educates, that tells us something, anything, about the world in which we find ourselves. Songs about sexual gratification are all fair and well as they do indeed reflect at least some of today's society, but where is the depth in these? Where is the meaning? And what are the repercussions? These need to be explained to our youth (and younger).

I have no children, but if I had I have to say I would be hard pressed to protect them from the onslaught of modern media. Yes I could inform them to the best of my ability, but how much attention would they pay to my words and deeds when the whole world seems to say something other?

Music, good music, is important. It says in a few minutes what's needed to be said, and since our attention spans seem to be on the decline it's more important than ever.

Some of the tracks and artists on this thread I am very familiar with, others I have never even heard of (thank you). Keep it up lads, maybe we can reach someone out there, and if not at least we can appreciate it.

David Bromberg is, to me, the King of the Fuck You Bitch blues. I've listened to him since the 70s. Saw him just two days ago as a matter of fact. He still brings it.

Here's a great tune, I Will Not Be Your Fool, but it's 9 minutes long so let's pick it up at 06:18 when he goes on a tear:

Now there's a rant. Great stuff.

But can I ask a technical question? Getting the vid to start where you wanted, I assume it's the "t=378" in your link. How'd you do that? Can this just be added to any video link?

Yes, "t=378" is 378 seconds, or 6 minutes and 18 seconds into the video.

First, stop the video at your starting point. Then click on the "share" button below the lower right corner of the video. You will get a pop-up. Tick the box that says "Start at [the time you selected]" then click on COPY to copy it to your mouse's clipboard for subsequent pasting.

Alternately, you can manually type a time-point at the end of a youtube URL but place a ? at the end of the URL to precede the timepoint.

Having a bit of a re-think. Instead of cryin' in our beer on how "She done us wrong", let's look at the bright side, our new beginning...

A lot of good stuff here.

How about this one for how I felt at the beginning of my realisation that something wasn’t quite right with the programming I’d received and no-one seemed to get my point of view:

    Queen, I’m going slightly mad:

And when you come out the other end and decide to go your own way? (It takes a minute for the lyrics to kick in):

The Piranhas, Tom Hark (bet you haven’t heard this one!)

    Re: MGTOW Music Challenge

A bit off topic again I know, but since there seems to be a number of Iron Maiden fans in our midst, and as I’ve been a big Maiden fan myself from the early days, here’s a link to an excellent documentary from 1987 detailing their history and includes a LOT of great footage, much of it quite rare:

Iron Maiden – 12 Wasted Years

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lsf-Xz_VPM4

And just for our friend The Prisoner, you might be interested in the section starting at 1:01:16.

With a running time of an hour and a half it is quite long granted, but IMO it is worth every second.

I have to admit I have never heard of such a beast (sorry for the bad pun), but assuming your reference to an albatross in the next post is a hint, I can only think of 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' from the Powerslave album.

Without that I would have been more inclined to guess 'Hallowed Be Thy Name'.

Here are two of my favorites from Rammstein. Both describe the plight of men. The videos diverge from the lyrics a bit, but in both cases, they speak for themselves.

Here's a tune I couldn't get out of my head last week. The lyrics say allot about the lack of empathy being baked into each transgressing generation down this long road of gynocentric perdition.
