I have to admit that I never noticed the age gap between Sam Neil and Laura Dern. Dern was apparently 23 years old at the time and she always looked older to me than that. They are making a fuss now of course but I think it's a backfire as it doesn't say much for her in the end.

And with all the acceptance culture, older man x younger woman is being shamed. Ironic.

That article claims she objects to the age difference, stating in their words that she "confessed it was not appropriate", but they only quote her as not noticing the age difference between her and Sam Neill at the time of the original movie and only now for the sequel does she notice it. But, they do not quote her as complaining.

Here's another article not quoting the two actors as making an issue of the age difference, then or now, yet the article states:

"Nearly three decades after playing love interests, the co-stars admit their age difference may not have been “completely appropriate.”

Fact is , that Laura is in her 50s now. Men dont look at her like they used to. That pisses her off. How dare men prefer younger women? Now shes got to have something to say about it.

Ever been in a nice restaurant, and observed how the young women with the older date gets glared at by the older women ? You can feel the jealousy literally radiate off them. Time....the great equaliser...no wonder cosmetics companies make a fortune.

My guess is these links are here to plug the new movie more than anything else. I'm no Hollywood expert, but the timing is suspicious.

Especially since the franchise's ratings have been dropping and a fair number of critics have slammed the movie.

However, this seems typical. When she was 23 she never even considered it. Hmmm, so you got to play a major role in a blockbuster, what could very well be the breakout role of your life; one that other actresses of your generation would be willing to gnaw their own livers out to get, and implications never occurred to you. Yet, 30 years later, the age gap seems inappropriate?

I wonder if the people decrying this will be saying the same thing about the new Emma Thompson movie, where she plays a sixtysomething who cheats on her husband with a male escort half her age....or will they declare adultery, objectifciation and inappropriate age gaps stunning and brave in that instance?

I liked her thighs in the first Jurassic film given she was wearing shorts! Every time I went back to her face though I thought she was rather ordinary and I am still amazed she was only 23 at the time. She is riding the Woke train as they all do.

Another reason it's BS is because professionals in the entertainment industry know that the actual age of actors isn't necessarily an issue. 30-year-old actors can play high school students. Actors can be made to look older with makeup and other cues. In 3 movies, Al Pacino played Michael Corleone from around age 20 through 80. First, they made him look young and naive, then the Godfather, then an old man.

In Jurassic Park, as I recall, the two of them were presented as peers, both experts in their field, and competent at their work. If anything, the Dern character was shown with status and accomplishments far beyond a typical 23 year old.

History get overlaid with nonsense after woke "awareness" gets involved. All of a sudden something that didn't matter at all is made into a cause for controversy. But as they say, all publicity is good publicity. It draws attention to the new movie.

True. The movie Grease has people in their 20's and older playing High School kids! No one cared that Olivia Newton John was 28 and Travolta 23.

If Dern's character was also 23 than she must have finished High School and College early. Quite the accomplishment. But given the film is about dinosaurs coming from extinction it makes you wonder lol.
