Jordan Peterson's Critique of Voluptuous Women Is Misplaced (Hippo Rage!)

Sports Illustrated is making headlines for its annual swimsuit edition again. This year, the magazine featured Yumi Nu, described as “the first plus-sized Asian American model” to make the cover of the swimsuit edition. The decision has garnered a great deal of positive press both for Nu and Sports Illustrated . . . Not everyone was impressed, however. Dr. Jordan Peterson is a clinical psychologist, YouTube personality, professor emeritus at the University of Toronto and bestselling author of several books.
Peterson’s tweet about this year’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover ignited yet another of his famous firestorms. He wrote: “Sorry. Not beautiful. And no amount of authoritarian tolerance is going to change that.” The backlash was immediate. In response to his critics, Peterson elaborated in a subsequent tweet: “It’s a conscious progressive attempt to manipulate & retool the notion of beauty, reliant on the idiot philosophy that such preferences are learned & properly changed by those who know better.”

Peterson is entitled to his opinion, of course. In my opinion, his critique is misplaced . . . Inevitably, any criticism prompts loud accusations of “fat shaming.” Nonsense. Objection to that behavior isn't grounded in "lack of body positivity;" it's a rejection of needless vulgarity. Yet again, there is ample evidence that the public can and does value the talent and contributions of female performers, for example, without regard to their body size or shape: Consider “First Lady of Radio” Kate Smith, opera divas Montserrat Caballe and Deborah Voigt, soul legends Aretha Franklin and Jill Scott, hip-hop stars like Queen Latifah and Missy Elliott and pop crooner Adele . . . "

Commenters: Voluptuous women are not fat slobs. The woman on the cover of that magazine looked like a fat slob.

A grossly overweight blubbery woman in a tiny bathing suit is not “voluptuous.”

Raquel Welch and Sophia Loren are voluptuous. These women are just overweight and out of shape.

I understand when Cosmo pulls shit like this they are making their female audience feel better about themselves, but isn't Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition designed for men?

Re: Jordan Peterson's Critique of Voluptuous Women Is Misplaced (Hippo Rage!)

This just lets chunky women have their day playing like a model. Look at me, it's my turn, finally!

Within the framework that this is all vanity at play, it seems to me that women are merely negotiating with themselves their long-standing internal conflicts about their looks and the hierarchy of that. In other words, it's women messaging women. It's only a corollary idea, then, that men are supposed to go along and admire all of it equally. So women will add that into their self-medication here. I'd say many men already do accept a chunky woman, often when it's their own wives with whom they have together aged. But perhaps these chunky women covet the attention-from-the-getgo that more physically fit women receive from men. Covetousness in place of the pride that we are expected to see.

I can't see wedding rings in the pictures and I wonder if they are single. This makes me amused to wonder if the single chunky women would ever model wedding dresses? Maybe they already do, but then I wonder at the end of the day, as they take of the wedding dress in the solitude of a dressing room where there is no attention and the glamour has subsided, do they more acutely notice they are not married? Do they briefly face a sharp edge of reality up against all that they have tried to achieve in this show?

Borrowing from the above, do the women pictured here realize an insecurity may be seeping through?

We started out with fit-looking models. Then we added anorexic-looking models. Now we've added overweight models.

I say let the marketing people try whatever they want. If their subscription numbers go up, then they were right. If their numbers go down, then they were wrong.

Frankly, I didn't even know S.I. was still in business. I do know they're in trouble -- see "The Decline of Sports Illustrated" at https://joshayen.wordpress.com/2019/...s-illustrated/. So, maybe this jumbo model deal falls into the category of "Well, we gotta try something to save this ship. Let's try this."

You left out the heroin junkie look from the late 90's, thanks to the heroin junkie look specifically, I canceled my subscription to SKI-Magazine when they displayed in full prominence as if that's what skiers did! Cunts took over the magazine and it became cuntified on estrogen!

There's not much left for me to disengage and disembark from, there's no more "last straws" they're almost all gone!

Seems to me, if you want to delay the sinking of a ship, you throw the heaviest items overboard. LOL

You got it all wrong! They're floaters, ya need to fasten them to the side like airbags for extra ballast! They'd use them on submarines if only they didn't clog up the pumps!

Re: Jordan Peterson's Critique of Voluptuous Women Is Misplaced (Hippo Rage!)

I saw women throwing a fit over Peterson simply being honest. Feminists keep trying to change the so-called beauty standards by putting pictures of grotesque fat women on the covers of, or inside of, magazines. And they think we have no right to any free speech in the matter. The fact is, men have never been attracted to obese women at any time in history. That goes against biological instinct. A man is naturally attracted to young, healthy, and shapely women. And by "shapely," I do not mean blimp-shaped. Men are attracted to a woman's fertility. That mean's young, hourglass-shaped, and healthy. Obesity triggers any man's natural instinct of revulsion. Obese women CAN NOT be attractive to men in general. There are a few exceptions with fetishists, and that's it. You're not going to turn men in general into obesity fetishists by publishing photos of gross-looking women. Each man will have one of the following reactions:

    1. He's disgusted by the blob-woman, and he lets you know.
    2. He's disgusted by the blob-woman, but keeps quiet about it.
    3. He's disgusted by the blob-woman, but subscribes to feminist brainwashing, and therefore lies, claiming the blob-woman is beautiful. This is usually with the hidden agenda of getting laid by a feminist, hopefully someone other than the blob-woman.
    4. The man is not attracted to her, or to any woman, because he's gay. Even so, he'll probably have the common sense and human understanding to know that the blob-woman is a hideous lump of flesh, but he'll probably be tactful enough to not say that out loud. He can always dodge the question with the "I'm gay" response.

You'll notice there is no response on the list to the effect of, "He's seen a lot of blob-woman pictures, and then all of a sudden starts being turned on by them." Men aren't attracted to obese women. It's just the way it is. I understand that that hurts some people's feelings, but that's not my problem. Take it up with Mother Nature. No man, no woman, no human being set it up that way. It's just the way evolution happened. The people who get all bent out of shape over it are ridiculous. There's no one to be mad at, unless you believe in God. No human set it up this way, so the feminists have no one to legitimately get mad at. If they think God exists, they should pray to him and ask him what the fuck. If they don't believe in that, they should at least have the common sense to see that no man set it up this way. It's just nature. But feminists lack that common sense. Instead, they blame men, of course.

Ah! You're right. I did forget that. An old GF of mine used to buy from Burberry back when they were conservative/traditional. Then they went through their junkie-model phase like you said. Now they're in some sort of robot/cyborg phase and all the models look annoyed at even being alive:

A couple of those dresses are positive proof that UFOs have in fact landed.

Sports Illustrated was meant for men, and women came out of the swamps and fucked that up too, like everything else with their fat body positive bullshit! Men don't want to look at fatties; they want hotties.

I can't decipher weather or not they're homicidal or suicidal? Did we do that to them? Was it something we said? Each one looks like they had MGTOW explained to them a couple days ago and now it's really sinking in!

As a female friend once told me "Voluptuous doesn't mean you shouldn't have a waistline".

As always, they want Chad to be attracted to them, not some regular dude.
