Thread: Irish Politician Claims Homelessness

I was thinking of using a more imaginative title for this thread, something along the lines of “No wonder this cunt can’t find a home!”, but knowing Unboxxed’s dislike for click-bait I decided otherwise. (See Unboxxed, even I can learn – eventually! LOL)

I bring this up not so much as a political commentary, but more as an example of the cognitive dissonance women employ.

Also, apologies for the multiple links that all say much the same. I just wanted to make it clear where I was getting my info from.

Speaking in a video posted both on her Facebook page and on Twitter, she said she is currently staying in a holiday home.

Ms Wynne as a TD is paid €101,193 and as a Clare-based representative, she is entitled to €31,365 a year in travel and accommodation allowances.

She is currently renting a holiday home, so – not homeless – and has an income of €132,558/year (assuming she is claiming the allowance – a fairly safe assumption IMO).

Are you feeling her plight and desperation yet?

I’m sure those that are truly homeless see a kindred spirit in her, and those that work in charitable organisations that help the homeless will put her straight to the top of their lists of those in need of help. /Sarc


She claims to be attempting to highlight the situation in the housing market here, which is indeed dire, yet this is overshadowed by her own character and thus serves to further minimalize the issue (IMO).

At Kilrush District Court sitting in Ennis, solicitor for John Montaine (39), Patrick Moylan entered a guilty plea on behalf of his client to the illegal possession of cannabis at the family home at Pella Rd, Kilrush on February 11th last year.

Mr Moylan told the court that Mr Montaine has 16 previous convictions with the bulk concerning road traffic matters.

Sgt Louis Moloney stated that two of the previous convictions concern driving with no insurance.

Now the failure to pay rent bit. The way she phrased it, it could have been a minor squabble over one or two particular rent payments. Not quite:

According to court documents, Ms Wynne and her partner had rent arrears of €12,126 over a four-year period dating to June 3, 2016. Under the letting agreement dated December 1, 2011, a weekly rent of €63.64 was set.

Leaving aside the fact that in 2011 €63.64/week was a very low rent (and an odd one for that matter), I think it fairly safe to assume that any landlord would see any potential tenant that hadn’t paid their rent at a previous tenancy for FOUR YEARS to be an unacceptable risk.

Since someone of her standing (a T.D. – elected member of the Irish parliament) and income (€132,558/year) should have no problems securing a tenancy I’m pretty sure it’s down to the fact that she’s shacked up with a guy who has 17 criminal convictions and has a history of not paying her rent.

Also, I’m sure her six thugspawn will grow up to be wonderful, productive members of society. /Sarc

I’m left to conclude that her focus on the housing rental market here is indeed genuine. It must be difficult to find an idiot that would take on her and her “family” in such a small pool of landlords.


By standing as a shinner (Sinn Fein) she has pissed off most of the electorate. By being ostracised by Sinn Fein she has pissed off their voters too. At least there is balance – now she is despised by all.

As to why she was ostracised – it was because she was pregnant. What complete and utter drivel!

By the time of the next election she’ll have received well over €600,000 in payments – more if she gets on a committee.

It saddens me that a POS like this can get elected. Saddens me but doesn’t surprise me.

As for the mortar, there's no shortage of shit around here. It just keeps getting piled on and on before the the earlier shit has a chance to erode.

Yeah, I picked up on this too.

My guess is he was glad of the excuse. To kick a family out onto the streets over money might make him look like a POS, but to do it out of health and safety concerns makes him look like a hero.

Okay, but I grew up in a family of eight, plus dog, in a 3BR, 1BA house of 828 sf including single-car garage. Three girls in one BR, three boys in another BR. We moved from place to place with the Air Force, always small 3BR 1BA houses. Bunk beds and trundle beds were the norm. That went on for about 15 years at least, until the oldest ones graduated high school and moved out.

None of our neighbors had houses any larger. Often smaller, IIRC. Who knew we were lacking?

Seems houses were just smaller back in the 50s and 60s, at least for my dad's military income feeding eight. I'm saying, I don't know what passes for too small of a house nowadays, or what is deemed too small to be safe.

The housing regulations here in Ireland have quite frankly gone insane in recent years with regards rental properties. Whilst they are all designed with the safety of the tenant in mind – a good thing – the modifications that they insist on are often prohibitively expensive and in some cases simply impossible to implement resulting in perfectly good dwellings being taken off an already hugely undersupplied market – a bad thing.
