    Ghost hobbies?

I'm curious as to what activities you regularly engage in? Taking this path allows us the freedom to do whatever we want, so what exactly is it that you do?

Also, what specifically do you get out of the activities you engage in? Is there a sense of progress? A feeling of escapism? Or just for plain ol' shits and giggles?

I spend most of my time reading and working out. I don't mind going to a coffee shop and reading in the midst of people, however I prefer to workout at a park or a beach by myself. It's interesting how the environment adds onto the experience of the activity.

Not much of an insightful post, but maybe it'll spark some ideas.

I look forward to your experience

I like collecting Nazi memorabilia, guns, killing shit, shaving my head, and giving women the tingles because I'm no good!

I also like scaring the elderly and being a rude obnoxious asshole.

My aspirations? I'm apprehensive for some real riots! Fuck this pussy shit! There's hoards of people that need killing!

    And I like gardening. <sarc/off>

    Re: Ghost hobbies?

As a 20 year ghost I no longer have much in the way of hobbies. Reason being there is nothing for me to escape. I don't have to make up reasons to leave the house just to get a break from the bullshit of women.

My interests chop and change from day to day and year to year. Sometimes it's politics, sometimes it's science, sometimes it's music, sometimes it's ... - you get the idea.

The point is though that I am free to pursue these interests till my heart's content. There is no-one to say: "That's pointless, you should be doing more about this or addressing that."

I guess this is just another way of saying I'm free to do what I want. This is often ridiculed as being non-productive. Maybe so, but I don't care what others think any more, so long as I'm happy in my pursuits what the hell does it matter what the views of others are?

Funny, I'm pretty new here and I can already tell this is classic mgtower.

Very true. One's happiness always comes first, even at the expense of other people's opinions. I can understand why a person would view changing interests as being non-productive. In my opinion it makes you more well rounded as an individual. Absorbing the different ways of thinking within each topic. People always want to put others in categories as a means to classify them and dictate what they should and shouldn't do. But fuck that, one should be free to follow ones desires as they come and go

Well right now I'm posting on this website while listening to new retro wave. Earlier today I broke up the monotony of calisthenics-based training with a heavy weight training workout. Before that, I played "Tales of the Abyss" on PS2 while drinking a rainbow unicorn bang energy drink. These were the things I felt the need to do today. It's great being a ghost!

    Re: Ghost hobbies?

I cycle a lot. I class this as a hobby because I take a genuine interest in cycling and bikes. Tinkering, modifying. I like how fit and healthy it keeps me, I like that it gets me outdoors. Last year I cycled 4.5k miles. It is also good for mental health. Some days I am out for eight hours. It's amazing how far you can go once you have your legs. Sometimes I ride alone, other times with a few members of a local club. Here in northern England there are lots of hills, green areas and nice towns to visit. A great MGTOW activity in my opinion. The married men are not allowed out for more than 3 or 4 hours.

I also would like to get into cycling on my "off" days with strength training. Do you have any recommendations for most "bang for your buck" type bicycles? Any particular type of bike that you would recommend? I don't know too much about bikes and I know they can range from a couple hundred to a couple thousand in dollars/euros.

Make sure you size up your frame and crank to your leg length, it's one of the most important things when deciding on a bicycle. It's biomechanics to put it in a better light.

Purpose is another, street, mountain, or BMX, it needs to be fitted to your size, no different than selecting ski boots, and no different are the results of that "fitted" selection! Otherwise it's everything from crotch rash to hyperextended joint pain. it's the same as getting engine bore and stoke matched up right, you want the connecting rods (your legs) matched with the seat position and crank arm length (stamped on the inside of most crank arms). Too small an arm and it'll feel like you're taking tiny steps, too long an arm and it'll feel like you're taking long strides while bottoming out on top and hyperextending your knees at the bottom.

I had to add a smaller 1st gear front sprocket and smaller crank arms before I was satisfied with my cadence, low end torque, and all day endurance. You'll know when it's right if you look for the telltale signs.

    Re: Ghost hobbies?

It depends on what riding you'll be doing, and what bikes appeal. While there are many types of bike for different purposes, most looking to ride for leisure will be looking at

    road bikes ('racers')
    mountain bikes
for inbetween these two or for both capabilities - cyclocross or 'gravel' bikes (these look like road bikes but with bigger tyres and other small differences)

if possible go for a proper bike fit before or during your purchase. Most good bike shops offer these. If you can't, do research/get advice if possible, but the main thing is the right frame size for your height. All the other stuff Tower mentions is relevant, however most people do fine with stock bikes without any changes - in my experience. You can always take your bike for a bike fit after you've bought it (but as mentioned better to do this before or during the purchase) and they can analyse your position and adjust whatever they need to.

$500 will get you something that won't fall apart within a year. Also I would consider second hand, you'll often get most bang for your buck here. Though take someone with you who knows about bikes.

Or just do what I did and spend GBP 2500 on a carbon fibre race bike. Luckily I've stuck with it, so the risk paid off!

Finally there will likely be local cycling groups, if you're interested. These can really help you with all aspects of your riding. And the people are alright as well - at least here in UK.

Nice to see someone who knows about bikes. I run 2x11 due to the horrendous hills around here. So all sorts of cadence possible! I am a lighter rider so strong in the hills, but working on my 'grinding' power (big rings).

Thanks mgtower for the advice. So getting a bike to essentially "fit" your frame is a must.

Yeah I know that cycling is big in the UK.

So I take it $500 will get a decent bike then. I'm not trying to be Lance Armstrong but just am trying to find "low impact, yin-style" exercise to complement my "high-intensity, yang-style" bodybuilding. At least I know I won't have to break the bank for a decent bike.

One other thing, aluminum, steel, carbon fiber and variations of these materials on parts.

Aluminum: Light weight, not durable bashing over rocks, dents easily, and more susceptible to fatigue failure. (good for a road bike you don't plan on smashing and grinding on rocks and offers light weight advantages steel cannot).

Chromoly steel alloy: Strong, durable, can bend without breaking, dent resistant, susceptible to rust. (my choice for Mtn bike) I chose double butt tapered oval chromoly frame with aluminum alloy rims.

Carbon, very light, strong, but brittle on impact, and expensive. Something only a serious road competitor would consider.

As said Keith Bontrager: strong, light, cheap - pick two.

My two main bikes are carbon (though without carbon rims). I am a 'serious amateur'!

You can wallpaper a carbon frame with $100 dollar bills and still not cover the cost of the frame in actual dollars spent!

I have carbon fiber ski poles, I clad the bases with copper and epoxy. One to stop the ski's edge from gradually cutting through the base of the pole just above the cup, and copper so I don't destroy my edges! Aluminum lasts about week before I bend or break them in two, or chop the bottoms off clean in the knurliest conditions! Usually both are bent 1st. day and last until one breaks! Bad timing eats aluminum like a shredder!
