Any personal projects you have running?

    Good evening gentlemen

I wanted to share with you a little project I'm involved in with my friends. For those of you who are a bit familiar with me know that my greatest passion is making music. I love it and it gives me everyday a reason to wake up and smile and live my life in happiness. Notwithstanding my nihilistic worldview . . . I am here and I can appreciate the beautiful things in life like music. Music has always been something fascinating to me.
I started playing drums at a relative old age, I was 18 years old I never stopped playing though. I still play in my band and it is just an awesome experience.

We are currently writing new songs to record them in September this year. We still need to book the recording studio though. We are very meticulous when preparing a recording session because it'll last a lifetime.
We are preparing every little detail before entering the studio and recording our songs. we are doing a pre recording during the song writing. The results are very satisfying so far and I'm excited about it. Can't wait to enter the rehearsal room and try to play these songs for the first time together. After an intense rehearsal we will be ready for recording.

The preparation will allow us to minimize the recording costs. I know from experience that the recording sessions will be quite quick and painless because everyone is prepared to the max with a clear vision on what has to be done. That's the way how I like to work with my friends and it is very effective moreover it saves us a lot of time.

We are still writing new songs but we are nearing to the end and will start rehearsing shortly.
Shit I'm just excited about all this and I thought I share this with you just for the LULZ.

Anyone of you have any projects running? I would love to read them.
    Thanks

    Good evening !! ... or erhm ... morning (7 am here ) !

Nice to find other people working on their passions, despite nihilism or black pilled, I am in the same boat ! I am working to learn all the skills needed to make decent quality games. Learnt programming since childhood, learnt 2D art in past few years. But despite how much fun I have drawing/painting, I dont see myself able to make games fast enough with that. So I decided to teach myself 3d modeling, which I am at this moment still practicing on.

Also, in parallel learnt some random maze generation, which I plan to use during random level creation etc. There are several maze generation algorithms available, I picked some and modified them to fit my needs. I dont like games where I kill stuff for an hour only to realize that I need to backtrack, so my objectives were to have a maze which covers most of the map, zig-zag a lot to keep it interesting, but dead ends are never too far. A sample maze generated via code I put here. Now I need to figure out how to incorporate buildings (outdoor levels) and rooms (indoor levels) there, currently its just a bland maze.

Other than that I regularly practice drawing anatomy, it makes drawing concept art of characters as well as high detailed 3d model of characters a lot more approachable. One such session of me practicing drawing skull from a specific angle is here, though this is from ~2 years ago. Later when I get comfortable with modelling 3d characters, I plan to learn rigging and animation.

There are many little things here and there, but mgtow means I have all the time in the world.

    Hello rkspsm

thanks for sharing your project. What 3d modelling programm are you using? I tried to figure when watching your pic but I couldn't identify it. I have downloaded a couple of weeks ago the Unity engine which has made some progress over the years. Unfortunately I hadn't had the time to dedicate myself to it as long as we are preparing the record.

In the past I was modelling terrains with the SDK engine (Far cry) which is a good editor as well. I have downloaded Blender which is a good free alternative modelling programm compared to expensive 3D modelling programms like 3D StudioMax or Maja. I would love to seem some more stuff you are doing it is really interesting to say at least.
    Thanks for replying.

My life is a PROJECT! If I were with a woman through these "struggling years" I'd likely be homeless and suck starting a shotgun!

My latest project was a transmission rebuild last week so I can empty out a property I have with a tax lean on it, that was last week, the transmission already has 1,200 miles on it and still purrs like a chicken. No extra parts at the end of a rebuild is a good sign!

I use blender for 3d modelling, krita for 2d art. I am a very pro-open source person, I try to stick to them as far as possible.

Blender team is about to release version 2.8, which is in very late beta stage right now. It is a LOT of improvement over previous versions, so if you still do any 3d stuff, you should give it a try. Regarding engines like Unity and Far Cry, I am myself not a very big fan of them, mainly because of the programming languages they support, which usually are C#, C++, Python, etc. Though I have worked with many of them a lot (C++, python), I am way more productive with languages that support certain features (discriminated unions and pattern matching over them). And there is only one language out there which supports those features and is fast enough to be used for gamedev: Rust. I am waiting till any of those engines have official support for Rust, then I will give them a try.

In artistic fields, I am focusing very hard on anatomy/human body. Because I believe thats the most difficult aspect to get it to high quality, maybe because we see humans everyday and that is why there is relatively very little margin for error. I can give very specific examples regarding the curves of eyelids which are there in certain expressions, and if you make a mistake there, your expression will look dead and you will spend hours distracted with lips and cheeks. In other things, even if they are more complex geometry wise, you can get away with lots of error and most people wont notice it much.

And this creates a situation, if you want to practice anatomy, you will need to practice on nudes, and most of artistic poses available on internet are not very anatomically exaggerated (like bulging muscles etc). You need those exaggerations if you want to practice that. To fix that, I practice anatomy from porn. Regardless of how twisted or unnatural they may look, they dont bother with "artistic"ness of the pose, that is, they wont try to cover themselves up artificially. And that makes a HUUUGE difference. But that also means, a large chunk of of my practice art, I cannot randomly post anywhere...

Other than that, a part of SFW art I did can be found here (same link which I posted in my intro post). You can find some little things I coded on my github page. Most of the code I write though exists in private repos because they are mostly me practicing some things, like vulkan graphics API (which is an amazing API). And sometimes they are projects done for college but I have no intention to develop them furthur. One side scroller game I wrote for which a vector image editor (like inkscape, illustrator, etc) can be used as level designer. The gameplay video is here. I have no problems sharing the code with anyone interested, its just I dont see it being useful to anyone unless I write some documentation/comments around it and put it all as some kind of tutorial. The main reason I didnt worked on them furthur because I was not happy with the output and the time it took, I dont see it feasible if I were to write a bigger game within the timeframe I am happy with.

Also, because you mentioned working with music, I did dabble a little bit in music. Learnt basic terminology and jargon, like chords etc. If I ever get time to do this, I plan to try my hand composing them using lilypond. I dont see myself practicing on an actual instrument, because too many other things to practice...

I think we really need a "nerd" subforum to post nerdy stuff we do, where we can post little things here and there !

I dont know what transmission is, but from what you say I guess its some part of a vehicle.

In that case, I better stay away from the vehicles in my house because others in family use them, and they will be really pissed if I mess with anything there !!!

Geez . . . How long did it take you to rebuild it? I mean rebuilding a transmission is a hell of a job, I'm honest I would probably fail. Was it broken or did you a maintenance rebuild. No part at the end of the rebuild means you know your shit for sure. Thanks for sharing.

p.s. @ rkspsm can't reply right now I gonna come back to your post asap I see we have here some passion in common. Thanks Bro
