When People Say a Male Character Should be Replaced with a Female One

Ghostbusters are girls now. Thor, a Norse god (masculine) is now female. 2003's Battlestar Galactica saw important male characters replaced with females.

But it's not stopping there. There is a huge push to make the lead character in Doctor Who, a historically male British icon, a woman. There is also talk of a female James Bond.

The narrative is already set up. If you oppose the idea, you are automatically a bad guy. For that reason, straight-up disagreeing isn't going to work.

What might work is turning the argument around on them. Since we're talking about switching up genders, lets make our own recommendations:

    1.) Superman

Lois Lane should be played by a male lead and be called "Lewis Lane." Superman should be a buddy story instead of focusing on Superman trying to win the affection of a woman.

It's 2016. It's time we stop subjecting our sons to the misandric idea that men should devote their power and resources to making a woman happy.

    2.) Wonderwoman

I think we should change the character's gender and back story. Make him "Wonderman." He's the immortal son of an amazon queen, exiled because of his gender. We don't need a reason. It's 2016 and young boys deserve a strong independent role model.

    3.) Star Wars

Luke's twin should be re-cast as an identical male twin. Make him "Prince Leo."

It's 2016. Are we really going to continue to teach young boys that it's a good idea to undertake a life-or-death mission to rescue a girl you've never met? Because she's pretty? That sort of thinking is bad for the well-being of men and should not be modeled for our sons. I think it would be a stronger story if Luke sees a hologram of his long-lost twin brother, whom he knew of, but assumed was dead, and wants to help him.

    That's for starters.

Nice counter narratives. I'd probably watch that, too. I haven't watched Star Wars: The Mary Sue awakens and I won't watch the new Ghostbusters. Gentlemen, hit them where it hurts: Their revenue. Vote with your wallet. Throwing a tantrum is meaningless if you still support these movies by paying for them. The very least you can do is to just pirate that shit if you just have to watch it.

They say turnabout is fair play..
How about having this go both ways???
(Like demanding more male character dolls in the Barbie line? ???)

    I know.

Let's redo Thelma and Louise. We put in 2 dudes gone wild. And we replace the Brad Pitt character with a hot chick. Yeah. That will sell tickets.

perhaps...but movies like that rarely interest me... and I'd much rather watch "Logan's Run", the original "TRON", "Galaxy Express 999" or "BubbleGum Crash" (one of my fav mecha anime)...

Oh come on, man, grow a sense of humor.
Don't you see the humor in having a female James Bond?

People never complained about making Colonel Tigh white.

The female James Bond is Angelina Jolie, in Salt and the other one with Baad Pitt.

You do understand you're making Superman gay don't you?

I saw both of those. She's no James Bond.
