Russian travel tips for visiting America

It's always interesting to me how other countries view Americans.

4 Russian Travel Tips for Visiting America | Mental Floss

    Some highlights:
If you do gift, go really Russian, they love that. Also did you know bribery was illegal in America? Be careful of that.
American women are a little uptight. They might call the cops if you look at them too long. And donít be gallant, that creeps them out.

Also, women play a greater role in business. Often they insist to be treated exactly as an equal and not as a lady.

Re: Russian travel tips for visiting America

I still have a book from the International Training Office library, titled "Dos And Taboos Around the World" - written to show Americans how to conduct business, and cope with the social side of doing business, in the international scene. It was a big help while I was going to other countries, teaching their personnel how to make aeronautical charts that would fit the needs and expectations of USA military pilots.

This is a whole hell of a lot of fun, to see the same "travel tips for the business traveler" to the USA, as seen in the eyes of a Russian.

(Oh ... amusing fact #32784: My book advised that a nice ballpoint pen is always a good gift; a pen-and-pencil set is even better in Asia, where they prefer two items over one. Perhaps this declaration had roots in the fact that the book was published by the Parker Pen Company? )

Oh, about the bribery thing, for the record, I think I heard that Putin was cracking down on that sort of thing... at least in the Duma... at least amongst his political opponents...

Funny how Russians just hang up on one another, seemingly with no warning. The way they characterize our conversation endings almost seems like alien life observing humans:

Conversely, Americans are often surprised by the Russian habit of quickly breaking off a conversation and hanging up. Phone etiquette in America usually involves the gradual end of the conversation, confirmation agreements and standard closing remarks.

There is some old mocumentary that really makes me laugh like mad every time they have a re-run on TV even though this is over 30 years old.

    The premise:

African scientists visit the "mountain tribes" of "dark, undiscovered austria" .. and absolutely no folklore cliche is left out which did stir quite some arguing back then.

Best .. somebody translated it to english and put it on Youtube.

Being original akin to where you really came from sure makes people interested in you. That's what I noticed wherever I go.

Not to be bothered from my thought, these were hilarious.
