Trust me that last Marlin was challenge enough! There was little I could do about the rust and pitting.

I got tired of all the Remington 742 series rifles. You have to take the barrel off to fully disassemble the rifle. Every rifle was just jam packed with dirt, debris, and corrosion.

Add to that a worn out weaver 4x scope on a tilt away mount, it makes for a really unreliable rifle. Guaranteed to not hit when you shoot, if it shoots at all.

Once cleaned up and a nice Leupold scope installed that old deer rifle shoots straight and reliable again.

Gunsmith tip: do not use Rem Oil. It dries up and turns to a sticky grease. The only good thing about that crap is it keeps gunsmiths employed.

Agreed. Last year I had a couple of 742s to work on--would not eject properly and they were a BITCH to work on--you have to have a SPECIAL tool for the barrel nut. Fuck that!

Does anyone have a source for 20-round AK magazines from Hungary? The AMD-65, "tanker" magazines?

Century arms may have more, I believe they were the importer.
Try "cheaper than dirt" website. They are out of Texas. Also look on "gun broker". Lots of shops have AK mags. Standard AK mags should work if its still chambered in 7.62x39

The good, surplus 20-rounders are as rare as hen's teeth. I might get to the point of buying decent surplus AK 30-rounders and finding a friend with table saw to cut them down.

It started out as a Pedersoli "Quigley". The wood is west coast myrtle. I had a gunsmith do the stock, it's a little above my pay grade. I was going to do it, but, then chickened out. Glad I did.
Yup, it's a shooter too. Black powder all the way, hand cast boolits.
