Playboy needs men back on the plantation too. Her brilliant essay if mighty proof.
Playboy's golden age was fueled by an economy that was ever expanding but a sexual marketplace that was fixed. This offered great job opportunities for men but limited sexual opportunities for them. Thirsty men would buy the magazine, and advertisers lined up to get access to that readership. The subliminal message was: buy this car, fill the "swinging bachelor pad" with the right stereo system and furniture, wear the right sportswear and cologne, etc. and you might get a few drops of sex from the eyedropper. The 1950s and 1960s offered ever improving jobs, homes, pensions, homes, and lifestyles for working men, but most women still demanded a ring and commitment for the promise of sex on a regular basis.

Nowadays, that economy is long gone, and the sexual marketplace is a mess.

Playboy wanted a wide open sexual marketplace...and it got it. Playboy was doomed from the moment that the price of a VCR was less than a week's salary of a minimum wage worker, not when the high speed internet connection was available to every 15 year old.

Playboy thrived when men had almost unlimited access to good paying jobs, but their strictly regulated access to vagina.

An economy that was producing an abundance of consumer goods needed Playboy's centerfolds to draw men's eyeballs to those products, and "The Playboy Philosophy" told those men that women would spread their legs if they lived the "Playboy Lifestyle," which meant buying the "right" consumer goods.

Playboy died when men could not access good paying jobs, but had much more access to vagina.

the sexual revolution was a failure.... (probably brought on AIDS in the process...)
as for "manning up"... what does that imply, ladies?? You want us to go back to what you hated about us in the first place?? (read "patriarchy").. or do you want us to become something you refuse to share with us????

"Revolution" implies that those on the top were overthrown, and those on the bottom went to the top. Wrong word to use.

Also, I disagree that it caused the AIDS epidemic. Had it not been for Dugan and his 2,500 sexual contacts in the space of 5 years, we might not have been talking about AIDS until after we had the medical breakthroughs of 2038.

    Look up AIDS' "patient zero:"
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ga%C3%ABtan_Dugas

A study published in the American Journal of Medicine in 1984 traced many early HIV infections to an unnamed infected gay male flight attendant.[2] Epidemiologists hypothesized that Dugas had carried the virus out of Africa and introduced it into the Western gay community.[citation needed]

Dugas is featured prominently in Randy Shilts's book And the Band Played On: Politics, People, and the AIDS Epidemic (1987), which documents the outbreak of the AIDS pandemic in the United States, and was portrayed by Jeffrey Nordling in the 1993 HBO film adaptation. Shilts portrays Dugas as having almost sociopathic behavior by allegedly intentionally infecting, or at least recklessly endangering, others with the virus. Dugas is described as being a charming, handsome sexual athlete who, according to his own estimation, averaged hundreds of sex partners a year. He claimed to have had over 2,500 sexual partners across North America since becoming sexually active in 1972.[6]

    http://content.time.com/time/magazin...145257,00.html

Club Baths, San Francisco, November 1982 . . . When the moaning stopped, the young man rolled over on his back for a cigarette. Gaetan Dugas reached up for the lights, turning up the rheostat slowly so his partner's eyes would have time to adjust. He then made a point of eyeing the purple lesions on his chest. "Gay cancer," he said, almost as if he were talking to himself. "Maybe you'll get it too."-- Randy Shilts, And the Band Played On

Since the early days of the AIDS epidemic, researchers have reasoned that a handful of people -- maybe even a single individual -- bore the unknowing responsibility for having introduced the disease to North America and its first large group of victims, the homosexual community. By tracing sexual contacts, officials at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta in 1982 found a likely candidate: one man who, through his sexual liaisons and those of his bedmates, could be linked to nine of the first 19 cases in Los Angeles, 22 cases in New York City and nine more in eight other cities -- in all, some 40 of the first 248 cases in the U.S. The CDC acknowledged his role with an eerie sobriquet: it called him Patient Zero.
Now Patient Zero is publicly identified for the first time in a stunning new book on the AIDS epidemic, And the Band Played On (St. Martin's Press; 630 pages; $24.95). Zero, says Author Randy Shilts, was Gaetan Dugas, a handsome blond steward for Air Canada, who used to survey the men on offer in gay bars and announce with satisfaction, "I'm the prettiest one." Using airline passes, he traveled extensively and picked up men wherever he went. Dugas developed Kaposi's sarcoma, a form of skin cancer common to AIDS victims, in June 1980, before the epidemic had been perceived by physicians. Told later he was endangering anyone he slept with, Dugas unrepentantly carried on -- by his estimate, with 250 partners a year -- until his death in March 1984, adding countless direct and indirect victims. At least one man indignantly hunted him down. Dugas' charm proved unfailing: he sweet-talked the man into having sex again.
Dugas' identity as the peripatetic Patient Zero was confirmed last week by Professor Marcus Conant of the University of California at San Francisco, a pioneer AIDS researcher.

I would argue that it revealed every woman's inner slut. It did not cause a problem, it just unmasked it.

And for two generations of men who would not have gotten "no strings attached" sex outside of marriage, it was a good deal.

Holy shit. That picture is exactly what I see at Starbucks every single day. Land whales eating 600 cal sugar laden drinks when that's half the calories they need for the day. When I was in high school that would've been the fattest girl in school now that's the average woman out there. Fucking disgusting stay away!!

I think she is persued by a horde of chubby chasers and desperate men. The thing is, she isn't being persued by the top 20% that she desires. She, just like every woman will re-frame the situation and make it the problem of the men.

    - If men are not approaching women, they're in a musclinity crises.

    - If this guy doesn't show interest in me, he must be gay.

    - If men are not approaching me, they are too absorbed in porn.

I know a woman at work who literally is the laziest worker I have ever seen. While we are working hard, she is sitting on a chair trying to order people around. I was in a lunch room with her while she was spewing absolute vile language and shaming fat people (while my colleague across from her was fat) She is physically attractive but I decided to base her on actual-value rather than sexual market value. As a result, I saw her as fugly and decided not to engage. She then went into 'be myself mode' just like her female cult-like magazines have instructed, and decided burping and farting. Me and the other guy looked at each other like this girl is mentally ill.

The relevance of this is, she made it OUR problem that we were not engaging her. She had a total blindspot to her own lack of morals. She hardly works and covers shifts sometimes.

Her current boyfriend is funding her lavish lifestyle while slaving away at a 90 hour a week job. It's men like this who need MGTOW as quick as possible.

The modern man will slave away for a girl with high sexual market value. A routine quality hole to pound.

well put, Program... this has to go both ways, since women will have to "do their share".... (they want "equal" rights.. well, my human rights have to be respected as well, or no support...)

not for me... I'm not approaching women because I get the impression they don't want me to... otherwise, why all this anti-male stuff like nebulous sexual harassment rules, "men only want one thing" and all that sort of jazz..?? (especially the bit where you're a misogynist for taking any pride in being a man... even if its just in being what you are..... its like... prideful woman = empowerment, prideful man = misogynist.)

seems some are still stuck in high school mode.... ad hoc ergo propter hoc...(Latin.. "this, because of this") and they seem to jump to that kind of conclusion so quick, it borders on warp speed.. (I would also say some evangelical types are just as bad... seems they never consider there could be other factors.)

again... jumping to conclusions... as well claiming they want men, but in the same breath, they push for rules and legislation that says the exact opposite...

its time to make up your collective minds ladies..... because its either one or the other.. there are just some things in life that no-one (not even men) can have both ways...

WHY WON'T MEN (who are 'eights' or above, tanned ripped and rich) SHOW INTEREST IN US?!?!?!

Average guy (7) in average clothes approaches. Shot down.

"I just want a sweet guy* who makes me laugh to be my best friend..."

    * sweet tall, handsome, and rich sweet guy...

I get it when she's an 8 or 9 looking for another 8 or 9. It's the 5's who won't date in their league because they're PRINCESSES... c'mon, that's comedy GOLD right there. Their mothers did them no favors telling them they are princesses, but hey - if she were to accept her daughter was average looking that would be a reflection on mommy's own SMV.

Yesterday I was doing a financial transaction and it actually took me a few minutes to put it together why the young (attractive) lady with nary a ring on any finger was seeming to give me... positive attention? I mean, I know my situation but in this particular case I probably looked "good on paper" and considering the account, far better than I'm actually doing.

Hmmmm... not super handsome but reasonably tall and reasonably well off...

Wow, you can see things ten miles away once you take the red pill. But taking the red pill is just the first step. Learning the nature of women, and watching what they DO (and not listening to what they say or how they act) is a major eye opener. Another expression that comes up over and over again: follow the money.

One thing I am learning that being aloof with really good looking women: they *do not* expect it. They're used to being fawned over by men and getting tonnes of male attention.

Just ignore what women say. Their body language says it all, because now it just saves me time and I am always ahead of the curve. The other younger men at work think I am some kind of wizard by knowing what comes next lololol.

Resting bitch face gone = They are wet
Resting bitch face activated = Run, Forest run.
Submissive kitten = They are wet
Folded arms or hands in people's faces = Dry as the Sahara desert

This applies to blue pill simps as well:

Head down, always trailing a woman like a puppy dog at the checkout lane = Defeated
Head looking elsewhere while behind a woman that is in a scooter that is about to tip over = Looking for escape route
Skinny man with dirty clothes with an overweight woman loading a belt at the grocery store with high fat pork chops = Broke simp

    Azure Nomad:

Head held high, icy-cold gaze, strong frame and good posture, saying "Hey Lady, the end of the line is behind me, thanks." = MGTOW

If people grumble or give you sour looks for "calling a 'lady' on her shit"... that's when you say (with a grin):

"Listen, I'm a staunch feminist and if you can't handle equality, it's not my problem."

The look on their faces is priceless. They seriously stand there and try to figure out if you're actually a feminist.

If they say "Oh really?" start talking about the suicide gap, hours-at-work gap, dangerous job gap and heavy lifting gap.

Like the time I was at the scene of a very obese woman with failing health being lifted out of her bed by four men. Two male paramedics, myself and one other guy, while the female paramedic stood by and watched. It's called: female privilege. I should have said "Over here honey, I saved you a spot. Do your fucking job. Are you getting 77 cents to protect your back muscles over there or what?"

I've also seen female cops step back while male officers dealt with a shirtless savage on a meth rage swinging his fists at everyone within striking distance. I know. NAFCALT. (Not all female cops are like that). But many of them are.

that should read "TOO many of them are...." (if they want us to believe that certain ones are the exception, then they need to re-think their strategy.. assuming they can -- I've begun to distrust my faith in the female race more than I used to..)

Re: Time to switch of that porn and find a real woman guys... Man-UP! or I will shame you some more!

Re-reading this post, I think my analysis was too superficial. It wasn't technology that doomed Playboy but the changing economy that made that VCR cheaper than a week's salary for a minimum wage worker.

In 1970, the minimum wage worker could not afford ALL the accoutrements of the "swinging bachelor pad," but he was in an economy were he could aspire to them because the economy was growing and wasn't going to be a minimum wage worker for long and his taxes, even in high tax states like New York, did not did not take more than a day's wages from him.

Over the next decade, the VCR went from something he read about in Popular Mechanics, to costing a couple of thousand dollars, to just a few hundred in WalMart, because production of those things went from the US, to Japan, and then to Korea, to Hong Kong, to Malaysia. Nice if you wanted to buy one, but not so good for the workers who watched their jobs go overseas.

Trends like globalization interacted with science and social mores. The invention of birth control pills and the undermining of concepts of female "virtue" and the introduction of no-fault divorce all played a role.

Playboy sold itself as a "how to" manual for that era's PUAs, but for most readers it sold a highly valuable commodity - images of nude women - in a society were most of society was invested in Marriage 1.0. Marriage 1.0 only works in a society where permission to have sex is something men want and women "sell"...in exchange for long term commitment.

But men could only buy into a long term commitment contract if they had the wherewithal to "play house." In Marriage 1.0 women offered the promise of "good sex" to the kind of man who was a "good catch." Until the recession of 1973-75, a man with a high school diploma, a good work ethic, and a union job could start at the bottom and work his way up to a house, a car, the chance to build up enough wealth to send the woman's kids to college.

Inflation was corrosive to that arrangement: it wiped out savings, and pushed people into confiscatory tax brackets formerly reserved for the rich . Feminism told women to let someone else raise their kids and get into the workplace, introducing what Marx called a "reserve army of labor" to depress men's wages just as the post WWII prosperity petered out, and just when men who would have been taken out of the workforce to serve in the military no longer had to register for the draft. Fewer jobs, more people after them.

The logic of the Post WWII economies was based on an ever expanding market. For the first post WWII generation, that worked. There was a demand to provide basics and economic security at first: homes in the suburbs, lifetime employment with one company, the first car, the gold watch at retirement, the paid off mortgage. Then, men were sold luxury goods and baubles: the hi-fidelity stereo, credit cards, leisure suits, and all the other kitsch advertised in Playboy. When men refused to make the full transition from citizen-soldier, to citizen, to consumer, women were brought into the workplace.

Men have a different relationship with money than women, just like women have a different relationship with clothes and shoes than men.

Men, formed by their depression era parents, would pay for the essentials, and then take whatever was left over and save to buy a house or pay off their mortgage. When a wife got a job, she would buy consumer goods. At first, they were time saving devices to make her "home and hearth" duties easier: that microwave oven to save time preparing meals, a washer AND a dryer to avoid the hassles of hanging up laundry, cable TV to babysit the kids after school until she got home from work. But eventually, all that buying power would be squandered buying stuff that is expensive when you want to buy it new, and practically worthless when you want to sell it used: jewelry, shoes, clothing.

Unfortunately, creating a new class of consumers came at a bad time. Consumers need jobs, but bringing in more workers when the economy is going through a recession lowers the wages of the workers already working. More consumers, but less buying power. Like an addict thinking that he can smoke his way through a crack addiction, the powers that be brought in another reserve "army of labor" by opening the borders. This was an even bigger mistake, since illegal aliens avoid taxes and send all of their disposable income home. Those inflated dollars buy a better retirement back home, where there wages revitalize their communities, build their houses, send their kids to private school back home.

But the mid-1970s economy brought us to today. The Playboy reader of 1970 was very likely to get married. He could afford to, and he was convinced that he eventually would, that he had to. Change the economics, change the sexual marketplace, change the rules of engagement (and marriage), and the social supports for Playboy wither away.

Hmmm....bachelor pad economics, indeed. Money not spent of an engagement ring (a clear transfer of wealth from one gender to another) is money that can be spent on VCRs, DVD players, high speed internet, video games, etc....

I'm wondering if minimum wage earning 25 year old man of 1966 is getting more sex or less sex than minimum wage 25 year old man of 2016.

I know that 1966 man was paying a much smaller portion of his salary in taxes than his counterpart of 2016.

Re: Time to switch of that porn and find a real woman guys... Man-UP! or I will shame you some more!
