Life Before The Party Ended-Your Thoughts?

As I observe the gradual de-testicularization of America , sometimes I get the sad sense this was always the way things were.

Then I see something that reminds me that there was indeed, a time in America where men could be men in manly jobs. I never got around to watching the old 90's cop movie Colors, and so I was surprised to see the initial dialogue between an officer played by Sean Penn and the watch Lieutenant .

The Lietenant goes on about the political spiel regarding the new unit they're making, community involvement, yadda yadda, when the young cop says " sir, that sounds like we're being used like a fucking tampon!"

Whole room cracks up. Did the Lieutenant break out a form or write up the cop on a charge of sexism ? Nope. He just tossed back a retort :" Tampons go to good places, patrolman!".

    Whole room cracks up again.
A small exchange in a movie, to be sure- but if I said the same thing at a man-only meeting in my military days, I'd have wound up in my Commanders office before sundown. And probably would have wound up with an Aricle 15 for my trouble. From what I understand about law enforcement today, if that happened now the entire room would have been written up for laughing, and the LT cashiered along with the patrolman.

So, old timers- what was life like before the Feminists drove the country over the cliff? Was that kind of male comraderie commonplace back in the day? I'm specially curious if any older LE guys could chime in on whether that scene was common or just Hollywood .

"I live in freedom, under my own flag." - Captain Harlock

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." - Arthur C Clarke

"Who's the more foolish? The Fool? Or the Fool who follows him?" - Obi-wan "Ben" Kenobi

I can vaguely remember the late 1970's. Dad had a job that provided him a company car, so Mom's station wagon was easy to pay for and the house payment was $150 per month. He brought home about $250 per week, with the only other expenses being the phone, electric and water bills plus food and fuel for the cars.

Mom didn't work and would take care of the 4 of us kids and cook and clean. A family of 6 getting by just fine on one modest income.

1970 was the peak of American Middle Class man. The Powers that Be decided that after just one or two generations of these good times, the party had to end.

    - the dollar was decoupled from the gold standard.

    - Marx's "reserve army of labor" was mobilized, and the feminists manned the recruiting stations

    - Tax tables were not indexed for inflation, so, despite the battering of the dollar, families with two incomes that amounted to $40,000 in 1975, were still taxed as if it were a princely sum earned by a CEO in 1965.

    - the quality of a public school education declined, favoring those rich enough to send their kids to private school or able to move to a neighborhood ritzy enough to have the remaining good public schools.

    - The harder it became to earn enough to play "paterfamilias," the less respect you got, and the more dangerous it became.

    - No fault divorce made it easy to split, and feminist lawyers who were unemployable in the private sector found fulfilling job "punishing" husbands and fathers in Family Court, then exiting through the revolving door, only to come back as divorce attorneys.

An escort is a woman you occasionally financially support only when she has sex with you.

A date is a woman you occasionally financially support in the hope she will have sex with you.

A wife is a woman you constantly financially support even when she is not having sex with you.

An ex-wife is a woman you constantly financially support with alimony so she can have sex......with someone else.

    Precisely my thoughts .

Inflation of available workers - women doubled . And of course economics reality 101 - wages dropped 3 times . The rest is just snowball .

It is almost as if the Powers That Be (PTB) looked at your father and decided he was
    - too well paid,
    - too financially secure,
    - too socially secure,
    - that his marriage was too functional,
    - that he saved too much of his money, and
    - he didn't spend it in a way that would fuel consumerism.

The PTB looked at his children and decided that they were to well adjusted and had too much social mobility without mortgaging their future to the Congressional-Educational-Banking complex for educational certificates.

They looked at his wife, realized she was too happy and functional, and realized she would not be a good source of votes for big government and spending on time-saving devices like microwaves, take out meals, convenience foods, day care centers, Prozac/Valium, and 2nd or if she was so connected to her home and family.

The PTB decided that the functional nuclear family was under-taxed while simultaneously not spending enough money on consumer goods.

There seemed to be a concerted plan to break the economic, political, and social foundations of the nuclear middle class family.

Every since some damn actor was president in the 80's, care and feeding of the rich has been job one for the oval office. If your poor or middle class, well it sucks to be you.

There's also the fact that the poorer and more desperate you are, the better the government likes it.

It was for us in the 70's. The Southern United States is conservative and has held on to the family unit, and Jesus, longer that the rest of the nation.

I agree. Unfortunately *some* millennials are insufferable.
