Exclamation The importance of introduction posts - mods will begin enforcing intro post policy

Greetings to all of the members of goingyourownway.com!

The mod team has discussed the number of members who have not yet written an intro post. While most of us have written comprehensive, informative and thoughtful introductions, there are a few of us who have failed to do so.

Accordingly, in the next few days we will compare the membership list to the threads in our introduction sub-forum, which is located here:
    http://www.goingyourownway.com/mgtow-intros/

We will note the members who either don't have an intro post, or have made very meagre intro posts with not much content. (As per our founding policy, for those members who have intros up at the original MGTOWforums.com, or the temporary site before this one was established, those still suffice.)

By early January 2015, members without intro posts (either here or at one of the two earlier fora) will be sent a PM informing them of that shortfall, and they will be put "on moderation" for one month. That means that their posts will not appear to the other users until approved by a mod. While on moderation, they will still be able to write and post an introduction, it just has to be approved before it appears.

So this serves as a notice to any members without an intro post, if you can get one written in the next couple weeks, you'll save both the mods and yourself some work. If you can't get one written by then, it's not the end of the world, you just go on moderation for a while.

Posting an adequate intro during the moderation period gets you off the moderation queue, and you can then resume posting as per normal. Failure to post any intro at all within a that month will eventually result in a ban and account deletion. We're reluctant to do this, but c'est la vie.
If you feel intimidated by the prospect of writing an intro, just take a look at what some other guys have written. Mine is ridiculously long, but it doesn't have to be like that. Three paragraphs will suffice in most case:

    2. Awareness
: your blue pill perspectives, how you transitioned to red pill, with enough detail about what brought you to MGTOW.

    3. Who you are
: tell us a little bit of who you are. What you like, what you do, etc.
Our guidelines for intro-writing are here:
    http://www.goingyourownway.com/mgtow-intros/intro-27/

With that in mind, I want to thank all our valued members who do post regularly - with and without intros. We don't want to shoo anybody away, but the intros are a key aspect of our community.

    Cheers all!

Re: The importance of introduction posts - mods will begin enforcing intro post policy

I like to read the intro posts, I flatter myself that I can often spot a fake, a troll, or someone who will eventually step over the line. Occasionally I have a false positive. Meh. Although this forum doen't seem to be so beset by trolls as Nacho's (which, through the rosy and forgiving haze of memory we can all now look back on fondly).

Maybe the mods here are just quicker to act.

Anyway. For me, I always want an intro post to relate some specific story from your past. An anecdote. Usually they are about an ex, but sometimes its a family member, or even a stranger. For some guys they are a series of little incidents; for some, there's one big blow-out. The intro posts are so valuable, so varied in their specifics, so depressingly identical in what is really going on under the surface.

Tell me a story, new people. Doesn't have to be all that long - a paragraph or two will do. I have beer and twisties and I want to read a story.

What about people coming from the old forum (Nacho's)? Is a new introduction required?

I don't like this #1) Relationship History part. We shall see if what I submit is deemed adequate.

    - Where have all the good men gone? Away. Far far away... from you.
    - NAWALT? Maybe, but EWALT means Russian Roulette is a much safer bet...

If something is too personal, you can leave out those specifics. It also doesn't have to be relationships; you can talk about interactions with women outside of relationships. We want to know why people decide to go MGTOW; it helps us understand what brings people to their point of view. People who are on our board to cause trouble, really can't bring themselves to write negative things about their history "with women", because they are usually women and it feels wrong to them. It comes across as forced when they do. As Wombat pointed out, there are tell-tale signs, and the history part is a key differentiator.

Some of you may be wondering -- who is this Jagrmeister guy? Have a look at some of my posts from MGTOW Forums--> Jagr Archive (collection of my articles)

Stuff I do: Box, Surf, Tennis (3.5/4.0), Downhill skiing. I lift 4x a week and have for 10 years.
Stuff I like: Comedy shows, NBA, Reading Non-Fiction (sociology, philosophy, biographies).
Random facts: I admire Steve Jobs. Favorite travel spots (Russia, Central America).

Thanks for clearing that up. I think I am better equipped to write on that particular subject now.

I've put a link to my intro post in my sig, which I think is probably a good idea.

Depending on how customisable the software is, maybe there should be a spot for it on the user profile page.

Not a bad idea Mr Wombat. I know when I want to read a particular user's intro I go to their use page and find started threads. Often it's there. But that would be a useful feature.

Re: The importance of introduction posts - mods will begin enforcing intro post policy

A reminder; I've put in a number of hours going through all the memberships and cross-referenced with folks who've made intro posts.

To those who have received PMs from me asking them to write intros and who then wrote 'em: thanks!

To those who have yet to create one after being asked: We are now starting to put members without intro posts on moderation. That means your posts won't show up until approved by a Mod, and that can take days. If you're in this boat, you'll get a PM from myself or one of the other Mods informing you of the fact. This process will take a few days to work through.

Again, thanks to all our members, and we reiterate that intro posts are a fairly easy step to take, we're not demanding that much. Please make your post in the Intro sub-forum: http://www.goingyourownway.com/mgtow-intros/
