    Select your Type

We've added a feature that lets you select your type - per our new site strategy. Please do so now. (We need everyone to do this within the next two weeks (August 10). If you don't do it by then, we will pick one for you. At that point, we will begin to restructure the site with these three communities. )

To make the change, click Settings at the top of the screen. Then click Edit Profile. You will see the Type option. You can pick: Bachelor, Neutral, or Ghost. See the above link for more.

You will then see the Type in your profile box when you post.

Even as a Moderator, I'm wondering about that myself. And the example of FkRcvGc6F8C4 isn't reassuring.

My main reason for asking is because I'll probably be going in and out of periods of ghosting so if it is allowed, I'd like to be able to change it to reflect the current status of my life.

Sorry Jagr, I don't really like this as it supports dividing us. I answered the poll, however I will not select a box to go into bro.

Yes, isn't there a danger here of the echo chamber effect? Like a lot of people on this site, I have trouble classifying myself as strictly one thing or the other, and my fear is that the discussions will be less interesting without some differing and opposing voices. I might be a "ghost" most of the time, but I want to know the opinions of "bachelors" and "neutrals", not just other people like me. However, I love this site and I will respect any decisions you make. I just don't want to end up in the subset of a subset (And MGTOW is already a rather extreme subset by conventional standards!), where I have no one left to chat with but Timothy Mcveigh!

If I, as a "Ghost", decide I want to go to the "Neutral" section, will I be able to? Would I have to go to my profile and change my type to "Neutral" to do so? What type might a married guy be? I guess "Neutral" since he is not a bachelor, but what if he wants to discuss game and that sorta thing? I'm curious to see how this plays out.

I think in the original post it said anybody could post anywhere, but now with the type listed under our avatars I'm not sure how it's going to work. I wouldn't want to do a majority of my posting in one sub. Based on the replies it seems like a lot of people are split 50/50 between two types, or maybe a mix of all three.

And I've been told HQ is heavy handed - maybe, but we're not asking folks to 'classify themselves' either. People are who they are, and over time, that can change as their lives move forward. These classifications are not an aide, but a hindrance. This seems like a huge effort to control things that really, can't be controlled.

Doing this is divisive in my opinion. As has been said, you're the admin, you can do as you wish, but it seems more than a bit of an stretch to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Good luck with it.

Sorry Jagr, I don't really like this as it supports dividing us. I answered the poll, however I will not select a box to go into bro.
I agree. It's one thing to be told to select a new label. It's quite another to be told in no uncertain terms that 'one will be selected for you'. This just goes against the grain for me.

They can pick one for me. I'm not selecting one either.

Yes, you can always change your Type whenever you wish.

And no, selecting a Type won't change what part of the site you can access or who you can communicate with. No matter what your type, you can interact in any part of the site and with anyone.

OK, I take that back. Instead you will have a hood thrown over your head, and dropped into the abyss, head-first. Aug 10- don't forget

Guess what happened? I spoke the words in the example test post and a genie popped out of nowhere and granted me three wishes! I'll be away for awhile. I'm going to be cruising the world on my new mega-yacht.

PS. The genie said it would only work once.

Forcing a type for those who don't choose one makes it less useful.
There would be no way to know if someone chose their type or just had it picked for them.

We may just give someone Neutral if they don't pick. Only if we have a strong opinion about a user will we slot them one way or the other.

I selected a type. Still think this is a solution looking for a problem. It reminds me of than anvil repair shop I tried to open years ago. That didn't work out so well.

    Re: Select your Type

The Mod Team has been discussing this matter, and we've decided that we will not be making the designation for members. We would prefer that you select one of those three types, but it's up to you.

(And yes, Mystic Rodent, these categories are only nominal - and we realize that none of them may be a "perfect fit" for you, or anyone.)

    Re: Select your Type

I can understand and appreciate why some guys might not like the idea.

What I would genuinely like to know is; how it is divisive? We already know that we have different ideas about ghosting versus marriage and everything in-between. What's so bad about owning your standpoint?

I selected a type. Still think this is a solution looking for a problem. It reminds me of than anvil repair shop I tried to open years ago. That didn't work out so well.
I think the problem could be the repeated circular discussions about the relative merits of ghosting versus engagement. These can be side-stepped in favour of more interesting discussion if we could quickly see where every man stood on these issues at any point in time.
