The Experiment is Over: Lounge is Back

Everyone can post in the same place again. In order to develop a practical solution to the constant flamewars between MGTOWs with differing and irreconcilable worldviews, we created 3 communities - each with their own character. The goal was to let each MGTOW thrive in their own environment and have more productive exchanges. However, after giving this a good faith effort, it seems apparent that people prefer having one community. So we've put things as they were- with the main forum being the Lounge. Ghost and Bachelor still exist and we recommend if you hold strong views of either kind, you make those posts there. However, we expect Lounge to be the main activity on the site.

Last note- we recognize the shifting around was turbulent for all of us. We felt strongly enough to make the changes. Thanks to everyone for sticking this out. End of the day, our interests are all the same even if we have different ideas on how to structure the community.

Some of you may be wondering -- who is this Jagrmeister guy? Have a look at some of my posts from MGTOW Forums--> Jagr Archive (collection of my articles)

Re: The Experiment is Over: Lounge is Back

In the old days what is now the bachelor area was called Game. Which is still in that General sub forum area. Anyway, I like it being called Bachelor better.

I've gotta say that seeing you post from a bachelor perspective allowed me to go from lurking at Nacho's forum its last year to applying here. And talking to most ghosts, it's the same MGTOW thing to me: don't allow oneself to be a tool for women. It's the red pill taken to the next level.

I was always what you could call purple pill. Then declared myself red pill when the word first came out. Would not have been ready to have called myself a MGTOW till the days this forum opened. Which is just shorthand for red pill on the next level. Anyway, this forum is great, and I appreciate the lounge being back myself.

Last but not least, like John Deer said, thanks for the hard work. Hip hip hoo ray for Jagr and the GYOW forum!

Thanks from me as well Jagr.

Maybe if we have the same differences between us being argued out repeatedly, they could be stickied and anyone who raised them again could just be directed to the previous exchange.

I wasn't here when the Lounge was still active, so I guess I'll just sit back and see how it turns out .

i think the lounge is good for people new to the forum, newbies, but otherwise its disorganized for good discussions.

Re: The Experiment is Over: Lounge is Back

When I joined this forum, the multiple communities system was already in place and, to be honest, it seems like the best way to go.

The three different sections are organized and neat, while the lounge is a jungle, filled with dozens of posts without any kind of sorting out. On the daily basis it doesn't really matter where the new posts are located (I don't even check the forums by the categories anymore, I just check the "latest posts" down in the main page), but it can be a daunting experience to find anything in the lounge afterwards. As a newbie I found the former system way more welcoming, for I could easily access the content that spiked my curiosity the most, and then move on to learn about other aspects of the red pill. Had everything been mashed together in this massive lounge (which frankly, I rarely have the guts to explore), I probably wouldn't have even bothered.

On the issue of segregation, I think this forum in particular is pretty much pacific. All differences are solved (or not) by dialogue, people doesn't jump at each other's throats (unless someone mentions castration ) and comment on every kind of issue. This community isn't even big enough for such a clash, there are like 3 or 4 new topics created each day, we can't really afford sticking to one particular topic.

That being said, I never saw the lounge in action, just the big pile of posts it left behind.

perhaps having a bit of both worlds isn't such a bad idea...... I liked the "community" forums because there, the subject was "clear cut".. but the lounge can still be useful for things that doesn't fit the community ones neatly... (ie: being a bit too "general"..)

The "Great Experiment," from my perspective, worked well ... but on the whole, The Lounge worked out better.

For those of us who like the Ghost and Bachelor "communities," they're still in place -- and I'm sure there will continue to be topics and threads that fit in those categories better than they'd fit in the Lounge.

Re: The Experiment is Over: Lounge is Back

There is another website to which I participate (hobby, non-MGTOW) and in it are a lot of rabble-rousers. Not always rude and in-your-face, but often unhelpful when they thumbs-down other people's repair advice but never offer their own better ideas, never posting their advice, and when you ask them why, they make it sound like they are performing a noble service in pointing out bad advice to the newbies. The thumbs up/down got very noticeable as it was passive-aggressive and everybody knew when it was coded in-fighting between familiars. This was a chronic issue and finally was discussed there at length. Many guys who gave thumbs-down said others were too sensitive. Others said thumbs-down was excessive and a lazy substitute for participation. The cultivated men were seen as pussies by men who viewed themselves as hearty. It was realized by the site owner that enough of a minority of members wanted a place of their own on the site where the sensitive people would know what to expect if going there. So, a section was made just for them, described as "passively moderated" and all off-topic threads would go there and all crude behavior would go there, too. It was called "The Basement" where (as it was explained) the lights were dim, the beer was free, and anything could be said. The background of each page was black; people post in white font. A subsection in The Basement was made such that if any two members in the Basement decided to have it out, they could go after each other by opening a thread there, saying anything they wanted, unfettered, knowing that their thread would auto-delete itself in a week's time. The threads in The Basement would not appear in the Main Section where people start out. Anyone in the Main Section could access The Basement at any time. One had to click on a special icon which was a large image of a locked trunk made scary-looking with chains around it and a sign on it that said 'Beware!' Clicking it would make a pop-up warning" Back Off! Warning! Keep Out!" etc.

The rabble-rousers apparently saw in this new Section a tough "Fight Club" place where the "sissies" wouldn't pester them with "political correctness" and other civilities. It amused me that there is no actual basement, there are no dim lights, there is no free beer. It's just in actuality another webpage you click, merely assigned a description that seduces the imagination. But a sub-forum where all the hearty guys could do their posing in the company of other like-minded guys, implying their admiration for each other with their mere presence there, no one dare showing sensitivity. Four letter words abound, crude jokes, everything you'd ever want at some stage in your life. Whenever they want to contribute within the rules of propriety, they can post in the Main Section anytime. After all, it's just another webpage URL. Because of a seductive description, rude men will place themselves in detention by going to this Basement whenever they want to talk rough.

For some, though, it seemed that rabble-rousing is no fun when you are put in detention with fellow rabble-rousers. You can't show off to them with no nice people around. Other guys would complain the Basement was a ghost town. They wanted to be where people were. The Basement still exists, but everything there is off-topic from the main purpose of the forum. It's almost like the guys in the Basement simply wanted a free online place to live that stage of their lives. Come for the hobby, stay for the trash.

I assumed the webmaster was clever in what was basically a corralling of all the rabble-rousing into staying out of the Main Section, cleaning up the Main Section of their noise. It worked, by and large. If anyone in the Main Section gets out of hand, their thread gets reassigned by the Moderators to The Basement and those who follow it there can continue there, a Detention Hall of sorts, where the lights are dim, the beer is free, and anything can be said, to a much smaller audience.

The thumbs up/down thing was changed, too. Now, each user can go to his/her Settings page and decide if they want to see both thumbs up and thumbs down, or only thumbs up, or neither. End of complaints.

I'm not comparing that site to this one, I'm just talking about that experience as it is interesting, I think. This site is all about personal growth and evolution. That site is not.

That's actually a pretty good compromise. Glad to see the Lounge back

I think it's good in the end. A general area where everyone can discuss about general common ideas of MGTOW, and if there's something specific, they can go into the appropriate subforum and post there.
