I've got D-Day, Afrika Korps, Gettysburg, Victory in the Pacific and War At Sea. I miss Avalon Hill. They used to have a game called May 1940 which re-enacts the German invasion of France. Try finding that one nowadays.

Presumably you are familiar with Matrix Games - Decisive Campaigns: The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris. ?

I was into Flat Top and the Yacquinto series Panzer/ 88/ Armour, but when Close Combat 2 came out I never looked back.

Board games were obviously easy to mod but they lack the built-in opponent of the computer. If only we could have the best of both worlds!

Thanks for the opportunity to walk down memory lane.

I have played tactical games for over 40 years and still enjoy them.

Chess, GO, Avalon Hill, SPI, etc. still have quite a few military games from the 70s & 80s.

Had the most fun with Role Playing Games from the 70s to late 90s. AD&D was a favorite and actually how Pistol Pete and I became close friends.
Traveler 2000, Paranoia, CofC, BattleTech, Miniature naval battles and historic recreation miniature battles were excellent.

MTG and other CCGs such as Steve Jackson games and FLUX are fun but as stated, finding some interested in anything besides online multiplayer games is near impossible.

Sounds like there are enough people familiar with games to possibly investigate synchronous gaming sessions.

Give PistolPete a shout out regarding a AD&D (1st Ed) reprisal that he, a mutual friend and I are working on.

    Way cool!

It's funny you should mention this as I just started getting into playing board games again. Particularly the role playing D&D style. I recently ordered a copy of Mageknight and enjoyed playing that solo. Just ordered Arkham Horror and waiting for that to turn up and will play that for a while. This site lists boardgames by popularity - https://boardgamegeek.com/browse/boardgame

I fancy playing Gloomhaven as I hear really good things about it, but it's very expensive for a board game.

I was wishing recently that I knew people locally to play boardgames with. You're very good at the chat thing I can't remember the name of, and networking, maybe you could set something up to put mgtow in touch locally with other men interested in board gaming? It's gotta be better than blowing money on dates, marriage and enjoy something that doesn't involve women in real life that they can't intrude on for once.

Somewhere I have the rules for combining VIP and WAS into one meta game. Tricky as hell to figure out how to play but very fun. I was an old General magazine insert.

Pistol Pete and I have talked about this on and off for a year and while some members expressed and interest, it never took off. The technology end is very easy, it's the time commitment that would need to be worked out.

There are plenty of ways to share documents, use camera's to show tactical situations and die rolls, it's the mechanics of how to use the technology that would need to be worked out.

    Great idea however

    Re: Board games

Point of order, the oldest board game I'm aware of was introduced to me by a Persian guy on Zoom: The Royal Game of Ur dates from about 3000 BC. GregBo is right I loved Avalon Hill games and Battle Tech but my forte was always AD&D. GregBo, I and another friend are preparing a NEW version of AD&D for adults. We would like to begin marketing it on-line hopefully next year.

I also played a lot of AD&D, ShadowRun, EarthDawn , RuneQuest, and the occasional round of CarWars way back in the 80's and 90's. Back before I moved away from my college era friends. If there had been real jobs around the college town, I'd probably still be gaming with that bunch of social misfits as they were quite fun to hang out with.

Grad school was the reason our gaming group busted up when it did. Pistol Pete and I still talk about the personalities and "drama" from gaming sessions and post session meetings. Lots of good memories.
